Sorry to hear of your father Jimmy's passing. It's also so unfortunate that his collection of family history was stolen. I do have quit a bit of genealogical info on your maternal grandmother's line (my common line….desc from Sam McENTIRE & Nancy Ann KELLETT (yours through their 4th child Della Elizabeth "Kate" (b 1886), mine through their 3rd child Grace (b 1884). I printed up my family history book (enough copies for relatives) back in 1980. I worked an intense 3 years on that book (all done pre-internet), including hundreds of letters back and forth with elderly aunts & great aunts, obtaining very local maps of the areas, borrowing and copying old photos, and culminating in a 3 week "field trip" back to the old home towns (in Missouri, Arkansas) of the late 1800's, and meeting as many living relatives as I could on the way (& taking their photos). It was a wonderful labor of love, and I recommend to anyone that is working on their family's genealogy, to aim for a goal of stopping at some point to type up & print the collection, (along with any old photos, maps, letters, documents) for posterity. The trouble is that there is always "further back in time" one can go, but it's important to share the endeavor for your family's posterity, before either you pass away, or the collection becomes lost, stolen or damaged.
Perhaps Melissa, you can tell me (of your grandmother Kate's lines (McENTIRE & KELLETT) going backwards, but starting with her generation)….what basic information do you lack?____. Also, I would be interested in hearing any "anecdotes" you may have heard (e.g.someone's occupation, a flood, schoolteacher, church membership, military service or effect of any war, favorite foods cooked, games and toys, physical or mental illness, political office, quirky personalities, untimely deaths, courtship stories, reasons for travels or relocations, favorite songs or poems……….anything that reveals more about our ancestors, than just names, birthdates, birthplaces & spouses. Those types of tales are usually passed down orally, & if not shared again for the younger generation, become lost for all time.
From my notes, I see that your father Jimmy had posted a query (about McENTIRE HURT ancestor generation in 1998 that I came across years later, & I responded to him by email 9/13/04. I also have a very skeletal info on your father (b March 1926 at Hamlin Texas…He married Sue ?___(is she still living?___) & they had 3 ch: Michael, Melissa (you) and Christopher). Jimmy worked on the railroad, and at one time he lived in Amarillo, and (as of 1980) he was head of Texas School Teachers and Jimmy & Sue lived in Austin. I don't have any photos of Jimmy or your siblings in the book, but I do have
old photo of Jimmy's siblings (daughter Ocie b 1906), Mildred b 1908, Hazel Grace (b 1910 & probably named after my grandmother Grace who was Kate's sister), Thelma b 1912, Alonzo "Lonnie" b 1915, Gertrude (bc 1921…many years between Lonnie & Gertrude's birth…reason?), Tommy bc 1924, your father Jimmy b 1926 who was the youngest.
