Fred (Fredrick) Kick DOB @1890
I am looking for descendants of a great uncle, Fred Kick. He was born June 17, 1890, died June 1964.
I believe they lived in Lake or McHenry Co., IL. There was also a SW Michigan connection - I actually found a Fred Kick (his great grandson) but he wasn't interested in helping, as he had become estranged from his siblings. Sad.
Fred is the last one. I haven't been able to find anyone that has, or is willing to supply, family photos or documents regarding the family. I'm hoping his descendants will have photos or other things that document the family.
Fred's father and mother were Charles Kick (from Bavaria) and Emma Nofz (from Pomerania), both, at the time, states that became part of Germany. (German unification came in 1871.)

Re: Fred (Fredrick) Kick DOB @1890
My Kick family is apparently from Hesse Darmstadt in Germany. I know that there was Warner who was a shoemaker who came with his brother and Warner's two children directly to New Orleans in time to get drafted into the Civil War as a Confederate --kind of like an air warden or civil guard during WW II. He brought his family to the US to get them away from all the wars & intrigue & persecution of the Jews.
Warner was my great-great grandfather.I wasn't able to find out much about him.
I suspect the family originally came from Poland. I saw a family whose name started with "Kick"- who were deported from France into a concentration camp on a PBS series and it is known that Immigration shortened names.
There was an Arthur Kick listed in the Hesse Darmstadt phone directory -- the only one -- but when I wrote in English and German to the address, both my letters came back both with "Refused!" in German stamped on the, You would think they would at least be curious.
There have been Kicks in New Orleans since at least 1735. A Mrs. Thomas Kick and about 5 sons, I think but can't remember the details. They came from Alsace-Lorraine and that is apparently where my more recent Kick relatives set sail from.
Warner & his brothers and Warner's two children came to New Orleans,Louisiana. I am sure the brother may have had children & there were already Kicks there.
There was a Fred Kick in my family.
Warner's two children were Ferdinand and Caterina which is a Jewish Shepard girl's name. I have been unable to find her mother's name or anything about her.
I did learn that Ferdinand became Fred and he married in New Orleans and I think his wife & most of his family died in the 1922-1923 flu epidemic.
I can't remember all the details as 40 yrs of my genealogy research (before computers) was burned in a family probate dispute by spiteful relatives trying to burn down the family home & I have neither the time or the resources to try and do it all again. I have never had photos of the Kicks except one of my great-grandmother Caterina -- "Katie" Kick who had very bad osteoarthritis who was shown with her cane and she looked like Golda Maier without the huge eyebrows and she had a thinner face than Golda.Maybe Barnrastreisand as an aged matron? Of course,I never knew her.She had a gambling addiction and she died after a night of gambling on New Year's Eve as she had pneumonia.
Caterina married Forbes Issac Kidd, an Irish Jew from Armagh, Northern Ireland. They decided to attend the Episcopal Church but continued to observe the Sabbath in their home and other Jewish occasions. New Orleans has always been a heavily Catholic city.
Children from this marriage were Ann who never married; Forbes Issac Kidd Jr. who had a nervous breakdown after a car wreck in which his entire family was wiped out;Arthur who was a CPA and went to Hollywood to be the accountant for the film industry and about whom I know nothing more than he worked in Austin,TX briefly;Margaret who married a man with the surname of MacIver and she died of breast cancer;Ruth, my grandmother who had two sons - my father dead of diabetes & my uncle;Dorthea who married an accountant Erle Firnberg and they had two children;Naomi who married Shepard Eschete who was a shrimp boat captain;Miriam who married Curtis Blakeman and took care of Ann; and then there was Esther who married my "Sicilian uncle" Joe Girgenti.
All of these Kidd children are dead now.
There was a faction of this family who left New Orleans and went to St.Louis, Missouri. They have descendants there to this day. They never talked to or contacted the ones in New Orleans after they left until I posted an inquiry here and a descendant contacted me. We had no idea why the family split.
There are also some Kicks who contacted me from Brooklyn New York but I don't think they are related.
You would think with the rather unusual surname that it would be easy to find descendants with information but I can't find any on my direct family except by the Census.
I wish I could help you more but this is just what I remember without my notes.
I have 5 nieces and nephews but they want nothing to do with me and only one speaks to their mother. Apparently hatred & grudge holding is something in which these people excel.
I am saving up to do the DNA -- from the company "23 & Me" as seen on the Henry Louis Gates Jr. genealogy shows.
Good luck in your research!
