Well just recently people I found out that Kibbe originated from the Middle East and they say that only a middle eastern would have the last name of Kibbe so all you people trying to find out where Kibbe Originated from well it's from the Middle East so if you don't believe me go to the Middle Eat or find a Person that came from the Middle East and Ask them if Kibbe is a Middle Eastern Last Name and most of them will tell you yes. Reason why I know Kibbe is from the Middle East is by how ever many Great Gandpa's back to the 1840's cam to Mississippi and then he went To Louisiana and lived there and so You Kibbe's are probably related to the Kibbe's that cam over from the Middle East and they probably moved to different states and then all the Kibbe's were all seperated from each other. So hope this helps out all of you other Kibbe's.

As a long time Kibbe researcher, this info regarding "Kibbe" origins are in the Middle East, is news to me. Always open to new info. My first name is Kibby, named after a Somers/Ellington/Tolland CT family from the 1600s, directly linked to the Elija Kibbe family. Kibbe surname also has variable spellings of Kibbey, Kibbee and some others. Documentation of the Kibbe name in the Middle East would need to be documented prior to the 1600s. Documentation speaks the best for factual genealogy. Verbal reporting is a good place to start but written records, while not perfect, are a stronger basis to begin a search. There could be many possibilities. Perhaps a Western European Kibbe migrated to the Middle East and that is its origin. One never knows until layers of documents are revealed.
How do you know it was a middle eastern origin and not a Kibbe migration that seaded the name? Could this Middle Eastern name be the well known food or casserole dish popular in the Middle East? What is Kibbie or kibby??? - Yahoo! Answers Sometimes Lebanese and northern Palestinians will serve the dish without the pastry ... out of pan and set back in oven on low rack to cook bottom of kibby. Additionally, another term "kibbie" is used in the USA, which refers to small fish by shore fishermen. These are the fish which must be thrown back to the water as they are undersized. (Maybe limited as a North East regional term) Does anyone else show a Middle East connection in our Kibbe name? I have never come across it. Thanks, Kibby

According to "Kibbe Genealogical Notes" the first immigrant Kibbe of that line was born around 1611, in Exeter, England. By 1840 there were over 700 Kibbe's (and more with spelling variation) in the US Census.
And with the majority of their names being very Anglican -- Edward, Hannah, Dorothy, Albert, etc -- Middle East ties seem very unlikely for the majority of the US Kibbes.

Wow, the middle eastern connection is news to me. The only relationship to the middle east that I am aware of is the fact Kibbeh (Kibbe) is a Lebanese dish consisting of meat (raw lamb), spices and bulgar, typically shaped into a ball. Looking at my family history, it is hard to believe the theory that the Kibbe's I descend from came from there. At least with my line I know that we came from Germany and England (when name was spelled Kibbe), and then to Massachusetts and Pennsylvania (name changed to Kibby). We would have to go WAY WAY back to have us come from the middle-east. However, theories are interesting, but unless there is something to back it up, I'm going to hold firm with what I do know.

Been reading your recent posts with interest. My maiden name is Kibby. I've found it's VERY rare to find people with that same last name (exact spelling). I'm 73 and have only run into someone once who was not my immediate or one generation back family. I've only been able to go back two generations in my research. GGrandfather Hiram Alva Kibby lived in NY state then moved to Spargurville in Highland County, Ohio. Someone in Rootsweb found me here who is a Kibbe. We share the same GGGrandfather. My GGrandfather and hers were brothers. She had my GGrandfather's family Bible and sent it to me. VERY helpful. Will definitely be following this thread. Great material

Arzeltha,
Yes, I AM related to Connie McMunn. Her great-grandfather and mine were brothers. We share the same GGGrandfather. We "hooked" up here in Rootsweb. She had come into possession of my Great-Grandfather Hiram Alva Kibby's family Bible and sent it to me. I've lost her address so we sort of lost touch. She found me through Gloria Kibby and I can't recall her last name. She and Connie are related on the same direct line so I am their sixth cousin and Gloria and Connie are cousins on their line.
