"Kibbe, Rebecca Ann, 63, of 3419 Bel Air Dr. SE, was surrounded by her family and music when she died October 5, 2005. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Westminister Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Herbert Isenberg. Burial: Union Cemetery, Osage City, Kansas, 1 p.m. Monday. Friends may visit Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, IA and Saturday after 12 p.m. at the church. Friends may also visit from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at the Van-Arsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City.
Born August 13, 1942 in Osage City, [Osage County,] Kansas, she met the love of her life there in 6th grade. Dallas and Rebecca were married July 20, 1963.
She is survived by husband, Dallas, children, Jennifer, Robert (Laura), and April, a sister, Freda (Wally) Proctor, and her Daddy, Ralph O. Peterson and her precious pups Fluffy, Misty, Curly, and Sam.
Her life's truest passion was teaching, creating, and performing music. She performed with many choral groups and served as a church organist throughout Cedar Rapids. Rebecca graduated from the University of Wichita (WSU) in May of 1963. Rebecca was a dedicated and passionate elementary school music teacher for 38 years, spending her first years teaching in Kansas, and then 29 years at Wright Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. She retired from teaching in May of 2002. She was a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church and their Chancel Choir. Rebecca NEVER missed a dance recital, band performance, drumline show, choir concert, piano recital, or sporting event that any of her children participated. Rebecca enjoyed telling stories, celebrating Christmas (and all other holidays), horses, her '57 Chevy, her knick-knacks, and aviation. She loved teaching young children most of all. During her short retirement, Rebecca had developed quite a knack for gardening and shopping on E-Bay.
In lieu of flowers, we request that donations in Rebecca's name be made to Hospice of Mercy, 1740 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids. The family would love to hear any stories of how Rebecca has touched the lives of her friends and students. Please feel free to share these with the family by sending them to the home address or e-mail them to: rakibbe@yahoo.com."
