Elisha Kibbe is the second son of Edward Kibbe b1611 in England. I am having trouble connecting him with my family but I believe he is my ancentor. My Grandfather was David James Kibbe. If you get the book Kibbe Genealogical Notes from rootsweb.com You can learn all about Elisha. The question I have from you is what is this question about him being Dutch. My mother has always said they were Pennsylvania Dutch. I haven't been able to find anything out about this. Please contact me at markspaul@msn.com

I have Elisha's bd as 20 November 1644; bp as "Boston, Suffolk, MA?" (meaning I am unsure about the bp. Unfortunately, I did not cite a source on this info.
I have his dd and dp as 3 April 1735 in Enfield, Hartford, CT.

The only children I have listed are James and Edward, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the only ones.

I don't know anything about him being Dutch. I thought the family was English.

Were there two Elisha Kibbes? One born 1644 and one born around 1662? I have a Rachel Cooke (b. 1666) married (abt. 1687 in Enfield, CT) to Elisha Kibbe (b. abt. 1662). Their daughter, Rachel Kibbe (b. 17 Apr 1688 in Enfield, CT), married (17 Feb 1708, Enfield, CT) to Jonathan Bush (b. 10 Apr 1681, Enfield, CT). Do I have the wrong birth date for Rachel Cooke?

Can anyone help me on this?

Greg:
Yes, there were two Elisha Kibbe's. The information that I have is that Elisha Kibbe was born Nov 20, 1644 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. He married Rachel Cooke on Dec.10, 1667 in Salem, MA. Rachel Cooke was born on Sept. 25, 1645. Her parents were Henry Cooke and Judith Birdsall.

From the information that I have, Elisha Kibbe and Rachel Cooke had 8 children being: John (b. Oct. 10, 1667), Edward (b. Dec. 2, 1669), Elisha (b. Mar. 28, 1673), James (b. Dec. 27, 1675), Thomas (b. abt. 1677), Mary (b. abt. 1679), Isaac (b. Mar. 21, 1686) and Rachel (b. 1688). (I also had a notation with ? about a child Hannah)

John Kibbe married 1) Mary Brown and 2) Hannah Phelps
Edward Kibbe marrried Dorothy Phelps (sister to Hannah)
James Kibbe married Hannah Kelsey
Mary Kibbe married John Parker
Rachel Kibbe married Jonathan Bush

So I think what happened is that you have the marriage date as the birthdate. Hope this helps. Let me know.

Kim

Kim,

I would like to say thank you for your response to Greg. The information on Elisha(my 8x Great Grandfather) and Edward Kibbe was very helpful. I have read your other postings and they too have been helpful. It was interesting that two brothers married two sisters. I have seen this occur many times in my research of my family.

Thanks,

James Graham

James...

You are welcomed...don't know how much I helped...but thank you...sorry abt all of the same postings...when I was trying to enter the reply the "system" wasn't giving me a confirmation of the posting...therefore, multiple, multiple postings of the same...so sorry everyone...

If you don't have a copy yet, I would also like to recommend to you the "Kibbe Genealogical Notes on some Descendants of Edward Kibbe and his wife Mary (Partridge) Kibbe" by Doreen Potter Hanna...it has some wonderful information to go by and to get started on the right track for your Kibbe line...

I am presently trying to work on the "corrections" to my ggGrandfather Millard Kibbe in the book...

Which line are you from after Elisha Kibbe?

You can e-mail me directly if you would like at mulecrk@gvtc.com

Thanks...
