Neke, hi, my name is Lyndsey Kiah and I am new to the ancestry.com experience, but I just found your thread on the message board about the Kiah name. I will share with you some info about my Kiah line (african american) and where we originated. My great grandfather was Thomas Henry Kiah of Queen Anne's MD, was (i believe) the 5 principle of what is now Univ of MD Eastern Shore (UMES) and the link below routes you the building named after him. He had a twin brother James Albert Kiah. I have found little info dating before this and am eager to learn more. My mother (who is very fair skinned) met another Kiah when we lived in CT and once he learned she was black and married a black Kiah, he blew her off. I've found info of the Kiah immigration from Canada but not much info Re: an african heritage. If you find any more info please share with me.

Hello!
Sorry I am so late responding. However this is a surname that I have not found a lot of information on. I also do not know of many more people who have that name. I did find out that there were some African American Kiahs in Maryland. My great-grandmother was a Kiah but I have no idea where she came from, I do know that her parents Zacharias and Nancy Campbell Kiah lived in Powhatan, Va and worked on the Scott plantation for a short time before the slavery ended. One of my cousins in Powhatan did some research and made tree, I have a copy of it but of course I need to locate it.

Just browsing thru the "Kiah" name I found a Patricia Arquitt with the surnames (Sawyer/Fletcher) that had posted a message that that she had found an Indian/Black in the family. Don't know where she was from. Maybe you can go from there.

I have a lot of information on the Kiah family. We are from Northern New York State, near Canada. French version of Kiah is Cadieux.

Good Morning! Our side of the family took the Anglicized name of Cadier to Kiah and they lived in 1850 in Oswegatchie, New York. Their name was also spelled Cadieux. My gr. gr. Grandfather was born in Canada in 1804 and lived in Odgensburg and married a Sophia Gwin also from Canada.
I understand they were of the Protestant faith and the Cadieux were of the Catholic faith. Don't know how much of that was true. What part of family are you from? Maybe you can fill me in.
