I have just started my search for the heritage and genealogy of the Kiah family surname. I am 28 years old and in desperate need of information. My grandfather's last name is Kiah and his first was Joseph. Where exactly the Kiah name originated from and if what I already have information for is actually true and just to expand my knowledge of my family.

Kiah of Ogdensburg N.Y.

I am a Kiah also and all of my ancestors were from Ogdensburg. I am corresponding right now with a lady that lives in Ogdensburg who is also looking for connections. Her greatgrandfather was named Joseph W. Kiah. According to the 1870 Census of Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence County, N.Y. there is a Harriet that belonged to a Kiah family of which if am related. My great-great grandfather was Antwine (Antonine, Antoine). The lady I am corresponding with is ktaylor@northnet.org. When was your grandfather born and in what state?

Bill O'Keefe:
When was your gr. grandfather born and what was his wife's name. There were several Antoine Kiah's in Ogdensburg. My gr.gr. grandfather was Antonine (Antwine) (Cadier) Kiah, b. 1830 and married Rhoda Pray in 1847. They had 6 children, Alfretta, b.1847, George Antoine, b. 1848, Josephine, b. 1853, Harriet, b. 1855, Albert, b. 1860 and Myron, b. 1855. Do you have any dates available?

Hi My grandfather was from Ogdensburg, NY and his fathers name was Gilbert and his brother's name was James. At some point in history the Kiah name originated. It came from the name Cadieux and about half of the family changed their name to Kiah and the other half remained Cadieux. My father is Gerald Kiah, and he is 90 years old. He keeps telling me that Kiah is the English version of the French name Cadieux which means "gift". I know sometimes he gets confused but I have heard this for many years. Any information you have would help me in my search.

Thank you

Terri Kiah

Wow! I just happen to find this on Ancestry. My Kiah's go back to 1804 in Canada. My father, Herbert R. Kiah, gr. father, George A. Kiah, born in Bay City, MI, his father, was George John Kiah, b. Ogdensburg, his father, Antonine Cadier/Kiah, b. 1804. I have a list of the descendants of Antonine. My decendants were the Heugots, in believe, that came though So. Carolina. What was your gr. grandfathers name as there were many children. I got a lot of info through a 3rd cousin I had contacted with in Phoenix. BTW, my e-mail has changed, I think that is why I have not received much info on the Kiah name. Some took the name of Kiah, some had the name of Cadieux and some had the name of Cadier. I have an older brother named Myron Phillip Kiah and I am Jane H. Kiah Patterson and another brother named Robert Michael Kiah. I will be 82 next month and it would be great to hear from you! My e-mail address is Paysonhouse@msn.com.

Wow! I just found this on the ancestry. My e-mail had changed that is why I never saw it. My great grandfather was born in Ogdensburg and his name was George John Kiah, b. 1848, his father was Antonine Cadier/Kiah, b. 1813. There were many children from them so maybe you can give me some name and I will see if they are on my list. I will be 82 next month so I have been looking for some time.
