I am looking for our family's missing link & his family heritage and lineage. His name was "Charlie" Khon and was born in the late 1800's. He was married to Augusta May "Mayme" Scrambling (DOB:1891) and had a son (DOB:1907), Francis Louis Khon. He left his family around 1914, never to be heard from again. (this occurred in Jackson County, Michigan). We have no information on Charlie other than speculation and stories passed down from family members. After years of researching, I found out that Charlie or someone near this time-frame had changed the last name from "Khons" to our current last name "Khon". I found that before this happened, a Township recorder misspelled the last name at some point from a handwritten name of "Kraus" and misinterpreted the "r" for an "h" and the "a" for an "o", hence the "Khons" name. That is, if my research is correct. I included other possible spellings to cover those possibilities. (Khon, Khons, Kraus, Khaus)
My dilemma at hand is that I am having to figure out where Charlie went, figure out if he changed his name again, and try to find his family from before or after he left Mayme Scrambling. I would love to be able to complete my husband's family tree. Any & all information is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

I found Mamie living with parents (Byron and Chloe Scrambling) in Summit, Michigan in 1900. In 1910, Francis Kohns was listed as living with her parents - his grandparents - he is listed as 8/12 which would put DOB during last 1/2 of 1909. Have you been able to get Mamie's marriage record or Frances' birth record?

I have all this information already- I just can't find anything beyond Charles & Mamie's marriage record stating his father's name as Charles as well & his mother's maiden name as "Loomis" (but the handwriting for her last name is very sloppy, so it could be something different). We have all the info on Mamie and her son Francis, but my research has gone cold on Charles or even a search on his father & mother trying to figure out where they came from.
My best guess is that their name got changed from Kuntz to Khons at some point because our last name Khon is pronounced much the same as the Kuntz German pronunciation. I think that either Francis, Mamie, Charles, or Mamie's parents changed their last name Khons to Khon because of the census record showing Francis' name as Khons still. According to our family's verbal history, Mamie & Charles lived with Mamie's parents for a few years around the same time of the census, but it is now unclear as to why their names were not included and only Francis' name was on the census. I was told that Charlie left his family when Francis was about 7 years old. I was also told that Charles was the one who changed their last name just before he disappeared....that has always been very intriguing to me.
Do you have any family link to mine? Hopefully I will be able to figure this one out- it has been a difficult case to break. I am going to Michigan at the end of this month, so I am going to check on the historical records there to see if I can find something. Please let me know if you figure anything else out. Thanks for your help!
