KHLENTZOS, Michael T., M.D. – In Oakland, Friday, October 20, 1989; prominent Bay Psychiatrist and Educator; born in Greece in 1915, Dr. Khlentzos migrated to the United States with his parents and younger brother Constantine, educated in the United States, Fr. Khlentzos received his Medical Degree from St. Louis University in 1945, his medical internship and residency were fulfilled at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco; his Psychiatric Fellowship completed at University of California, San Francisco; beloved by patients and respected by colleagues in the field of Psychiatry, Dr. Khlentzos was a long time member of the Medical staff of St. Mary’s; he was held in high regard for his vision of health care for the mentally ill and his concern for the under privileged; Dr. Khlentzos gained national recognition as founder of the Adolescent Unit of the McAuley Neuropsychiatric Institute of St. Mary’s Hospital & Medical Center; Dr. Khlentzos served as Director of McAuley Institute for over 25 years; the Adolescent Unit remains today the only private Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in San Francisco.
“Dr. Mike’s” many friends and colleagues are invited to call Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2-5 p.. at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park Chapel in Colma. Trisagion at 3 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. at the above Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary’s Hospital & Medical Center or Mercy Retirement & Care Center are appreciated.
