Hi Cheryl,

My name is Donna Cook, I live in Port Augusta.

I have been collecting names fro the family tree. I noticed a posting on Ancestry from sometime ago re Richard Arnold.

Richard was my ggr grandfather. I also another of your postings with Nancy. I knew her she came to Marree with me and my Mum a couple of times for the Camel Cup in Marree. I also met Tinky and Stan when they came to Nannas' ( Aysha Zada) at Marree in the early 80's. My Nannas Mum was Lavinia Ellen Shaw sister to Mable.

Mable had 6 Children with Mahomet Sultan

I've probably met you before I went to Broken Hill for her funeral.

The family tree down from Richard Arnold is huge and growing. Its amazing how many relations have been right in front of you for ages.

If you want to have a look at the tree let me know

Regards Donna

Hello Cherryl, my mother's family come from Marree in South australia and I am a direct descendant of the cameleers, both Great Grandfathers (Moosha Balooch and Assim Khan) came out in the 1890's and stayed.
I have been doing my family history, and through speaking with my mother (maiden name Khan), she has spoken about Maneer and says that his house in Marree was a common meeting place for many cameleer families where they would play music, dance and sing. I am not sure if this is the same Maneer but there were certainly the name Shaw involved in the community as well, because a Mrs Shaw who had six (I think) daughters from her original marriage, married a cameleer by the name of Bejah Dervish and I know for a fact that one of her daughters Lavinia Shaw married a cameleer named Dadleh Balooch.

salaam or peace and blessings on those who chose to follow the guidance.
I am pleased to know that you are looking up your ancestry. You should take it a little further and investigate the beliefs ,integrity and character of forefathers.
Just as people have forgotten your ancestors beliefs, their contribution and sacrifice in opening up the australian outback has been hidden deliberately from the history books and Australians have failed to acknowledge the huge contribution of Afghans to Australian development and progress. In a similar way the real Islam is deliberately kept hidden from the masses and if you dug deep and found the truth you will have no choice but to adopt Islam as a way of life like more than one billion people in the world
have done.Islam meaning absolute submission and surrender to the will of God is that perfect operatiing system that answers all the questions and mysteries of life and gives you meaning and purpose to life.Do not get deceived and give reverence to your ancestors by at least finding out the beliefs and way of life they followed. If you need help in this please contact me

I am interested in introducing Islam to the descendents of afghan camellers in an attempt to make them appreciate the strong spiritual culture and ethics they possessed

Hi,
My step-grandfather was Mahomet Sultan, (Lulla). He married my nan, Thelma Doreeen Payne (Dennis). They resided in Broken Hill. Lulla passed away on 17/12/93. I remember fondly, his mother, Nanna May and his sisters, Nancy and Edna. I vaguely remember meeting relatives from Port Augusta. Marley? I think there was a cousin of his whose husband ran a transport company??
I am extremely keen to gather any information I can on his family. I hope you (or someone) can help.
