Hello,

Welcome to the Khadilkar Surname Message
Board! I am Sanjeev Khadilkar (1963- ), son
of Narayan (Madan) Khadilkar (1933- ), son
of Chintamani (Anna) Khadilkar (1902-1984),
son of Haripant Khadilkar, son of Prabhakar
Khadilkar, son of Kashinath Khadilkar.

Originally hailing from Khadil Gaon (village)
in Konkan, Maharashtra, India, as the surname
indicates, our branch of the family moved
first to Sangli, Maharashtra and then to
Pune, Maharashtra.

My brother Vivek and I both are in
transferable occupations, as was my father,
now retired and settled in Pune. Vivek's
sons Yash and Jai are of school age.

My father's younger brother Madhusudhan is
settled in Montreal, Canada; his son and my
cousin Amol is studying medicine. My father's
elder sister Kumudini married Madhav Mandke;
their children are Avinash, Rajeev and
Sunanda, all settled in Pune.

My grandfather retired as Professor of Civil
Engineering and Principal of the Polytechnic
in Baroda (Vadodra), Gujarat, India, then
lived his last years in Pune. He was the
fourth of five brothers (I don't have data
on the number of sisters).

Among my grandfather's brothers and their
children there are Raja Kaka, Manohar Kaka,
Sanjay (now deceased) and Ajit. There is
also Thiagraj, who has taken up a career in
singing. Of many many other cousins I know
little as yet.

My great grandfather was the elder (and less
famous) of two brothers; the younger one was
Krishnaji.

Krishnaji became well known as Naatakkaar
(playwright) Khadilkar, founder of Navaakaal
newspaper and disciple of pre-independence
nationalist Lokmaanya Tilak.

His great granddaughters Vasanti, Jayashree
and Rohini became famous in their turn as
successive Indian chess champions, each
winning the title at age 14, and later
earning the International Master norm.

About my great great grandfather I know
nothing except the name. I am building the
family tree and if you can add to my
knowledge about my roots, and / or add your
tree alongside mine, that will be great!
