Hello, this is a long shot; we all are in the same boat. I am looking for Charles Bruce who was listed in the 1870 US Census in Whitewater Township, Hamilton County Ohio. This part of Hamilton County, Ohio, is very close to the Indiana State line. My Charles Bruce is living in the household of Michael Keyes. According to this census, he was born about 1851 in Indiana. Members of the Keyes family: Michael, b. abt 1830, Ind.; Hester his wife b abt 1838 Ind. Their children: Emma, b. abt 1863; Edwin, b. abt 1875; Mary, b. abt 1867. All of the children were born in Ohio. As I mentioned, Charles Bruce was in the household of the Keyes family when the census was taken. He must have been about 19 years old at the time, and must have been a hired hand. He is my great great grandfather. I would love to hear from any member of the Keyes family who might know of this apparently itinerant worker, Charles Bruce. His middle name was Moore. Thank you!

It has been several years since you posted this question. I just found it tonight. I am the great great grandson of Michael Keyes and Hester Stone.

Most of the Keyes family is gone now. But I have one 80+ year old relative that may remember the man you asked about if he lived a long life. Do you have anything about his birth/death?

I will ask her and let you know if I come up with anything. Meanwhile, any information you may have about my Keyes family you refer to would be appreciated. I have photos of Michael and Hester but that is about all. It gets thin for me before my great grandfather Edward who you list as Edwin.

Look forward to hearing from you,
Edward Keyes

Dear Edward Keyes:
Thank you for your reply. My great grandfather, Charles Bruce born in 1850. He was enumerated in the 1870 US Census as a 19-year-old, living in the household of your Michael and Hester Keyes in Whitewater Township of Harrison County. I think he might have been one of the workers on the Keyes farm who happened to have been present on the day of the census enumeration. I think my Charles Bruce might have been an orphan. I know that my brief summary will be of no help to you when you interview your 80+ relative, because memories a fleeting and perhaps unreliable. I am sorry that I do not have any information about the Keyes family other than what has already been posted on Ancestry. Thank you again for your kind response.
