I have just recently found an Ezekiel D. KEY in my family tree also. Mine is Ezekiel D. KEY. He is listed on the following Census Reports:
1830 Hardeman Cty., TN Fed. Census as Ezekiel KEY (age between 30-40)
1837 Tishomingo Cty., MS, State Census as Ezekiel D. KEY
1840 Tishomingo Cty., MS, Fed Census as E. KEY (Age 50-60)
Obviously either the 1830 or 1840 Census is incorrect regarding his age.
He was married to Jane A. KEY, b. about 1808 in Tenn. Jane A. could be his 2nd wife. This would be especially possible if the 1840 Census age was correct.
I am awaiting some probate information from the Tishomingo Historical Society. Apparently there were several probate cases in the mid-1850's concerning Ezekiel D. (deceased)and his and Jane's son David H. KEY -
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ms/county/tishomingo/probate2.ht...Jane A. KEY is listed on the 1850 Federal Census with 6 children, including my G-G-Grandfather G.W. KEY, b. 1825, Alabama and a five year old Ann Eliza KEY which places Ezekiel's death after 1845. Since Ezekiel is not listed on the 1850 Census, I presume he died between 1845 and 1850. There was an additional male 20-30 listed in the E. KEY household on the 1840 Census. I presume this male married and started his own family by the 1850 Census.
I suspect that the Tishomingo County Clerk, Chesley D. KEY is Ezekiel D. KEY's brother. Other posible siblings are G.W. KEY and B.F. KEY both listed on the 1850 Tishomingo Cty. Census.
Chesley D. KEY was born in VA and so was G.W. KEY - I suspect that Ezekiel was also born there. My G-G-Grandfather listed his father as being born in VA. He listed his mother as being born in VA also. Either that listing is in error, or Jane A. KEY was his step-mother.
Chesley D. KEY was listed on the 1830 Census of Hardeman Cty, TN at the same time Ezekiel KEY was listed. Chesley D. KEY was also enumerated on the 1820 ensus of Henderson Cty, KY.
As I said, I have only learned today that Ezekiel was Jane A. KEY's spouse.
