Family lore states the family originated in Isle of Man(?) as a family member had always been told by her Mother that prior to Liverpool, James KEWN Jnr branch of the Kewns had come from the Isle of Man and that prior to that, the name was Scottish and was originally MacKewn or McKewn or some such spelling. No-one seems to know for sure why the Mc or Mac part was dropped at some stage but she gathered that the Isle of Man and Scotland bit of the history was way, way back. When she visited the Isle of Man and visited the Family History Centre, there were lots of Kewns listed but mostly spelt differently -Keown

We have a connection to a Kewn family from Liverpool. Diana Kewn, born 21 11 1854, is my husbands' great grandmother. She married Thomas Pedrick 10 11 1875 at Liverpool Parish Church and her parents were Thomas Kewn and Elizabeth Beattie. I think there were two more daughters named Elizabeth and Ann. Is this info any use to you?
