Iam researching the Kevern/Kevan family from St Buryan, Mousehole and St Just in Penwith. I have come to a brick wall with one of my family members.
His name is James Lawry Kevern He was born on 6th August 1866 at Numphra Hill St Just, he was the son of William Henry Lawry Kevern & Margaret Hosking. James Married Elizabeth Semmens Thomas at the Wesley Rock Chapel, Madron on the 12th February 1887. I have found james on the 1871, 1881 & 1891 census. But James is not on the 1901 0r 1911 census. His wife Elizabeth, died in 1937 and on the certificate it states she was the widow of James Kevern a gold miner, from this info, I presume that James might was abroad working. I have passenger lists with miners named james Kevern of the right age travelling to both ellis Island N.Y. and also the Cape South Africa. I dont know where he went to and He must have died abroad as I have been unable to trace his death certificate in the uk. I would appreciate contact from others researching the Keverns who may be able to point out where he dissapeared to. Alternatively, could anyone tell me if there are overseas records where he might be found i.e. employee records for gold mines.
Any information however small is appreciated.
Thanks
Ade Kevern
