I am trying to find information on the Keevan's living in Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland. I just found out that my great-grandparents were living there in 1850. There son John Keevan was born there in January of 1850, and the parish records stated that they were living on Salt Yard Lane. If you have any information on the Keevans living in that area, please notify me.

Dear Maureen - I was born and brought up in Carrick-on-Suir (now living in London England). My family were the only Keevans at the time I was growing up (there are now 3 families of Keevans, those of my 3 brothers still living in the town). We found out that there is a census taken in about 1799 which lists many Keevan families in Carrick, and we have wondered where they all went. It seems likely that any Keevans at an earlier time would be related to us. As we in Ireland have a custom of repeating certain Christian names in a family, it seemed from the census that all the families were related. The common names were: Edmund, Bridget, Thomas, Anne, Michael, Patrick (of course) and a few others. I will try to find out about the Quins. If you have questions about Carrick please ask. Can you tell me about your Thomas - where did he emigrate to, and do you know about his children or his siblings?

Michael,

I am so excited to have made contact with you. Last summer my husband and I travel to Ireland and visited Carrick, in hopes of finding some family information. Unfortunately we have not had much success. While there, I met with Tom Walsh from the Carrick Heritage Center, and he has been doing some searching for me. He sent me some information last month but did not have much success. I know that my greatgreat grandfather Thomas Keevan and his wife Bridget Quinn (Quin) were in Carrick in 1850. The church register for the Roman Catholic parish of Carrick-on-Sur shows that his son John Keevan was baptised there on March 6, 1850. The register states the address was Salt Yard Lane.
That is all that I know. John Keevan was in the US military, and his records stated that he was born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1850. I had a search made by Irish Genealogy Ltd. and they located the parish record in Carrick.
I know that Thomas and Bridget came to the US between 1850 and 1860, because my great grandfather Thomas Keevan was born in New York in 1860.
I would like very much to correspond with you about the Keevans in Carrick, and look forward to hearing from you.

I have a Thomas Keevan and a Bridget Day listed as parents on a death certificate from Worcester,MA for my great great grandfather Edward Keevan (b in Ireland abt 1847) who married Ellen Dunn. Edward and Ellen had a son, Edward.(b 1875 in Worcester) Both Edwards are buried in Worcester in our family plot, with no wives. I cannot place any of these families. I do not know what happened to Ellen, I would assume she remarried, since Edward was killed in a factory accident in 1895. I would appreciate any links of information on my line of Keevans.
