My Name is Maureen Pack. I have been trying to find information on the Keevans that lived in Carrick-on-Suir. I found the baptismal records of my great uncle John Keevan who was born on Salt Yard Lane in Carrick in 1851. His parents were Thomas Keevan and Bridget Quin. I know that my great-grandfather Thomas Keevan was also born in Ireland but we have not been able to find any records of his birth. I know that Thomas and Bridget came to the states before 1860. I would enjoy corresponding with you about the Keevans in your area. Maureen Pack

Would you happen to know what time period we are talking about now. I'm also in the process of a family tree, but I can not find the father, nor mother of William Keevan, born 1833in Ireland, but lived in Worcestor, Mass. or maybe he never came to America. Please if anyone has any information, I would be most greatfull. I too am from the lines of William Keevan.......

Thanks,
Sheila Keevan

Hello! David. I am a descendant of William Marion Keevan born in Worcester, MA 15 Dec 1860 died in Mobile, AL 14 Feb 1952 buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile AL. He was my great grandfather. His father was William Keevan and his mother was Margaret Crowley Keevan both from Cork Co., Ireland. My grandpa said Margaret's maiden name was O'Crowley but the "O" was dropped when she immigrated from Ireland to the USA. William and Margaret married in Springfield, MA 26 Dec 1856. The marriage license gave William's fathers' name as John. There was no info on Margaret's parents. William Marion Keevan married Nancy Elizabeth Beck 26 Oct 1884 in Clear Spring, AL, Baldwin Co. They had 22 children, 12 that survived to adulthood. My grandfather was one of the younger ones who died in 1986. Grandpa said his father had an Irish lilt to his voice. You may already have this by now, but I thought I would pass it along to you anyway. Good hunting, DMcClantoc

Please enlighten me, on these 22 children you say William and Nancy E. Beck had together. My father says no way, there were only 12.

Hi, Sheila. I believe you and I have corresponded previously. According to the birth record of Uncle Bunk (Marion Bernard Keevan) located in the Baldwin Co. courthouse, a live white male was born in Robertsdale on 14 May 1912. That record stipulates that Nancy Beck Keevan had given birth to 20 children and that with this birth 12 were living. A page out of the old Keevan family Bible (that is in my possession) lists the 13 named children of William and Nancy. Their 2nd oldest son, Eddie, was born 08 June 1887 and died in a freak accident on 06 Feb 1888. He was first buried in High Pine Cem. in Baldwin Co., then later moved to the Enon Baptist Chruch Cem. in Enon, FL when the family was living in that area of Escambia Co. The info about 22 children was given to me by my grandparents, John and Sarah Keevan and Grandpa's sister Mary Esther Keevan Doster Smith (Aunt Esther). (My grandmother Sarah said she was told this by Nancy Keevan herself.) According to them, Nancy had at least 3 sets of multiple births, (2 sets of twins and 1 set of triplets or vice versa) that were either born very prematurely and died very, very soon after birth or were stillborn and never named. Now if you do the math, 2 sets of twins and 1 set of triplets would give you 20 children like the birth record stipulates. Two sets of triplets and 1 set of twins would give you 21 children. When my grand parents and Aunt Es told me about the 20 plus chidren, I was a bit skepical myself until I found Uncle Bunk's birth record which pretty much confirmed their story. Twenty-two children may have been an exaggeration on their part---but a very small one---unless there was another multiple or a single birth that was unaccounted for in Uncle Bunk's record. Also, the early census records for that area of Escambia county has documented an unusual abundance of multiple births. I read in an article somewhere that a high content of a particular mineral in the local water table or soil could account for this phenomenon.

Thanks for all the info you sent me. I had visited with my Uncle Bunk many times with my father, many years before my Uncles death.
