My great-grandfather was named Johnson Ketcher. My grandfather's name was Issac Ketcher. Could this be the same people you are mentioning? Jaye Deen (Ketcher) Navo

Re: 1896 Cherokee nation Delaware District Census / Ketcher
Hi Kathy and Jay Dean,
I am baffled and am hoping you can help me out on the lines I am researching.
Claude Hanna wrote columns for the Grove Sun which were compiled in a book called "Claude Hanna Retraces Memory's Road". Claude's father married a full blood Cherokee woman, after his first wife's death, who's brother was Johnson Ketcher. However, he also notes that Quahlate was her father and his step grandfather. Do you know how these can tie in with her father's name being Quahlate and her name being Ketcher? I am so confused!
I would also be very interested in any information you have on the Ketcher family.
I can tell you that Johnson Ketcher and his son are buried at the Buckett Cemetery. The Buckett Cemetery is not fenced and is no longer maintained. The information from the cemetery is:
Johnson: Died 3/17/1907 at 44 years of age Lee: Died about 1906 at about 15 years of age
Also buried in the Buckett Cemetery are another line (direct line of mine) that I am tracing which include Dave and Aggie Buckett and Dorce Buckett.
Let's hope we can help each other!

Re: 1896 Cherokee nation Delaware District Census / Ketcher
Johnson Ketcher's father was Tah-ne-yun-ta (died 1886) and his mother was Sa-la-ta (died 1886). Tah-ne-yun-ta was a Trail of Tears survivior. He was better known as Toniette & his wife was known as Charlotte Ratler. Sarah's parents were John H Holloway and Jemima Cooper. Sarah had Cherokee ancestry too (as well as Choctaw & Nansemond), about one-quarter of her ancestry, but it isn't documented. Johnson's son Isaac was my great grandfather. I would be happy to send your more info if you would like. Thomas
