Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
Do you have anything on the birth of Elizabeth Ketchum, daughter of Epenetus Ketchum and wife Elizabeth Smith? She was born between 1763-1770 probably either southern Vermont or Clarksburg, MA. She married Adam Gilmore of Williamstown, MA.

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
Elizabeth Ketchum was born 1780 in Clarkburg, Berkshire, MA. I have no primary source for this, but understand the border between MA and VT fluxuated during that period, hence some trees state VT. I would welcome proof.

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
Elizabeth was born earlier than 1780. This is the information taken from the census: Bristol, VT, 1810-1 female 26-44, birth year 1766-1784. 1820 census Bristol, VT, 1 female 45 up, bith year before 1775. 1830 census Williston, VT, 1 female 60-70 birth year 1760-1770. Adam was born 1763 and Elizabeth was born about the same time. Their first son, John, was born June 1790 at Bristol and Adam Gilmore of Williamstown, MA, bought land October 1789 in Bristol. I have the land records, census records, and birth records for their children in Bristol. Elizabeth, the daughter of Epenetus is the ONLY Elizabeth living in Williamstown/Clarksburg at the same time Adam lived in the Stamford/Williamstown area : 1785-1789. Elizabeth was born before the other two boys in Clarksburg.

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
I'll add some more on Elizabeth. I received a letter from Eleazer/Polly descendent written in 1963 on that line. The writer says Levi Ketchum has a cousin named Levi Gilmore. More than likely Polly Gilmore that married Eleazer Ketchum and Adam Gilmore who married Elizabeth Gilmore were brothers and sisters. The sixth child of Adam and Elizabeth, born 1802 in Bristol is Epenetus Gilmore. He has a sister Elizabeth Miranda, born 1798. A second sister is Mary Polly, born 1796. My grandfather's brother is named Ansel Epenetus. Of Adam and Elizabeth's children, the first three boys; John is named after Epenetus's grandfather. Kelsey is named after Adam's brother who was killed by a falling tree in Stamford, VT. Levi is named after Adam's brother also of Stamford. Epenetus, you know, and Agness after Adam's grandmother. Elizabeth is probably Elizabeth Smith. Let me know your email. I have several pages on facts/theories on Elizabeth. Think she is buried at Taft Corners, Williston, Vermont.

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
One correction on the info I sent yesterday..John is named after Adam's grandfather, not Epenetus Ketchums. If you look at the names of Polly Ketchum's children, there is several Levis. Also, I beleive Jesse Ketchum, brother to Epenetus Jr named his son Leander Epentus Ketchum. Where did the name Epenetus come from if not from the Ketchum side??

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
I looked these up out of curiosity, as the Ketchams used so many Old Testament names. Their source may have been as close as the family Bible.
Epenetus (praiseworthy ), a Christian at Rome, greeted by St. Paul in (Romans 16:5) and designated as his beloved and the first-fruit of Asia unto Christ. From Smith's Bible Dictionary. Levi: "attached or pledged". Derived from Hebrew.
Jesse: is an offshoot of the name Yoshua or Joshua in English. It means God exists in Hebrew.
Elnathan: God hath given, the gift of God.

Re: Gilbert Newberry Ketcham of MI & NC: death
The Elizabeth Ketchum, born 1780 is not the daughter of Epentus Ketchum Sr, but the daughter of Epenetus ketchum, Jr. This Elizabeth was a teach in New York and is buried in the Clarksburg Cemetery. I have a land purchase of Asam Gilmore in Oct, 1779 in Bristol, Addison VT, he is living in Williamston, MA which is right next to Clarksburg. Their first son, John, was born June 1780 in Bristol, VT. Elizabeth and Adam were married sometime abt 1779, probably Clarksburg, VT.
