Hello relatives.
My (living) paternal grandmother is a Ketchabaw and I've got a list here of a lot of relatives! Wow. It goes back as far as Jacob Ketchabaw (b1789) and his father Philip. But I have no more information about Philip (other than his name) - can anyone shed some more light for me? I would love to share what I have (all is available digitally in gedcom file and in an online family tree that I can direct you to - I would gladly allow you to edit it online to so as to grow it collaboratively). Let me know what you think.
Sincerely,
Tyler Mitchell, from Straffordville, Ontario

Okay - maybe it's not Philip afterall?!

Okay guys, I'm gonna needs some help with this one ;)
After reviewing Allen's contributions to Dave Miller's Rootsweb stuff - I see that you're trying to tell me that Jacob (b1789) father is Abraham, not Philip. I've put a request in to my father to help me get a handle on this Philip thing.
Allen - can you shed any light on this for me?

Not Phillip

I hope my email to you has helped with the Phillip question. For others looking here I must assume some responsiblity for the misdirection to Phillip. Many years ago (abt 1978)in correspondence with Amy(Ketchabaw)Young of Elgin Co.,Ont. and Marjorie DeSutter of the same, both of whom are now deceased, I speculated that maybe a Phillip Katzenbach of Penn. census records was related to Jacob of Ont. Somehow this got passed around as being the answer. Perhaps this was combined with the common term "Penn. Dutch" which is a confusing reference to Germans.
None of Jacob's many sons or grandsons were named Phillip.
Two other sons of Abraham appear in early Thurlow Twp, Hastings Co. Ont. records (John and George). Jacob is also found there on Militia Records and at least one deed of 1831. He was living on the 3rd concession lot 7 and George and John are living on the same concession lots 18 and 20 if memory serves.

Tyler, I would love to read the online Ketchabaw family tree. My great grandmother was a Ketchabaw from the Straffordville area. If you could direct me there I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Christine,
I have what is called an "online family tree" at ancestry.com. I have tried to "invite" you to view, which would send you an email explaning how to access it. However, ancestry.com seems to have some problems doing it :(
If you can get onto their online family tree portion of the website, then let me know and I will try to help some more.

Tyler,

My name is Alisha Ketchabaw, and I am from Straffordville, ON. I stumbled upon your website while I was searching for more information on my family. Some of the names in your family tree look familar. Perhaps we can compare our trees sometime to see where they connect.

Regards,
Alisha

Hi Alisha,

I posted a snapshot of my family tree (the Ketchabaw side) on my website. See it at:
http://www3.telus.net/3dtour/ketch.jpg
and let me know where we connect. My name is not on there, but my father's name, Grant is the first one (on the left). He and my mother, Annette both still live in Straffordville (14 second street :)
I moved out to BC about 6 years ago and had left home to go to university 3 years before that, so it's been a long time since I lived in Straffordville. My Grandma Mitchell is Ellen Ketchabaw. I'd be interested in knowing if you can talk my family tree back any further on her side.
Take care and talk to you later,
Tyler

Tyler,

I found a Ketzeback Timeline about 6 months ago, and it would seem as though we're linked to them somehow. It dates back to the early 1700's, late 1600's I believe. Thought you might be interested.

I know very little about my family, so this has been no easy feat. I know Huge Ketchabaw from Eden, he is related to me some how, but I'm not sure if it's "old" family or "new" family. According to family lore, half of the Ketchabaw's went to Europe sometime between 1910 and 1930. As for the other half, I've been told they spread out to various parts in the US and in Canada. I know there are Ketchabaw's in Germany, I have found 6 people in the directory there. But I cannot find anyone in the rest of Europe. This baffles me.
