My ancestors came from Sto(umlaut)rhen, in Hannover, through Cincinnati to Terre Haute, Indiana. I do not know if they are connected to the folks with similar names in Bay City, MI, or to those in Iowa, Maryland, or Cincinnati. The name also appears in Wagenfeld, Hannover, and in Prussian Stro(umlaut)hen. These villages are within a 10 kilometers of the village of my ancestors. In the German records, I have found ancestors with the name spelled KA(umlaut)SEMEYER, KAESEMEYER, KA(umlaut)SEMEIER, KAESEMEIER, KASEMAYER, KASEMER, and KESEMEIER. (Once they came to the US, there are many more spellings, as is evidenced by my last name). You will have to decide if the spelling differences are providing real information or not.

Charles, have you found information about August Kasemeyer, or his wife, Elizabeth Ziel? Their marriage record says that his parents were Christian and Charlotte Kasemeyer. With the families both settling in the same area, it's very possible that they were closely related. August was born in Salzburg bei Coppenbruegge, Niedersachsen, Germany. The family also attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Did your family attend there? Salzburg bei Coppenbruegge, which is now just a part of Coppenbruegge, was a settlement of Lutherans that were exiled out of Austria (called the Exulanten). I have a bit of information that I can dig out for you if you believe that the two families were related. At the very least, this might give you a clue as to where to look in Germany for baptism records.
