Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Hello, I'm just starting a family tree in regards to the Keranens... I have Keranen family in my mother's side of the family as well as I was married into a Keranen family.. different families, but I know they decend from Finland.. I'm sooo confused as to where to begin... I have limited resources at this time. The Keranen families I am involved with are from Trimountain, Michigan and also Pelkie/Baraga/L'Anse/Tapiola areas of Michigan... Anyone with information, please give me a hand... I'm very new at this and trying to work on this for many reasons. Thank you! Connie

I have info on the Keranen family from Pelkie I refer to as the "musical" Keranens. They are relatives of my great-grandmother Wilhelmiina Kaartinen Pyykkonen.

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
I realize this message is several years after your original, but I have a tiny bit of information on the keranen family. It could be even a different keranen family, but my grandfather on his marriage certificate in 1909 says that the best man was an august keranen of painsdale michigan, which is around the same area you mention. carrie

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
My grandfather, Adam Keränen, was from Kestila, Oulu, Finland and settled in Atlantic Mine MI. I am not sure your Keränen"s are related but we could check out names we both know and see if they are.

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Margaret, Sorry it's been a while since I checked my posts. I have some Keranen family in the Pelkie/Baraga/Alston areas. I have a family memmber by the name of Marianne Keranen nee Alatalo, daughter of Herman and Jennie Alatalo, nee (Hirvos-Niemi). Does this help at all discern if we have the same Keranen family? Please let me know and I apprecate all your help! Thanks again!

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Carrie,
I was married to a Keranen family from the Trimountain area, the Keranens I was related to are the Wilbert and Delores nee Antilla - Keranen. Joel Keranen was the father of Wilbert Keranen and Wilbert has siblings by the names of: Carl Keranen of Hancock, Viola Keranen - Palosaari of Dollar Bay, Wilho Keranen of Trimountain and Gertrude Keranen (not sure of the married name at this time) in Washington State. I don't recall an August Keranen, but there may have been uncles that I'm not aware of. I know Wilho lost his wife Anna in a car accident in Trimountain and I know that Wilbert died a few years ago, and his sister Gertrude died a day or two before Wilbert died. Also, Wilho died a few years ago as well. Not sure if this helps at all, and perhaps we can compare some notes. Do any of these names come to mean anything to you? Please let me know as it would be great to tie some loose ends together. Thank you! Connie

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Hi Connie, no none of those names are familiar to me. This August Keranen I have would have died probably around the 50's or 60's and was born around 1870's. He stood in my grandfather's wedding. I'll keep the names and let you know if I run across them in my searches. Thanks. carrie

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Connie, Marianne's husband's family is the Keranen Family I want more information on. I know that my great-grandmother had a Juntunen uncle that connects the Keranen family, Barb S 's Enzio Juntunen family in Painesdale and the Juho and Wilhelmiina (Kaartinen) Pyykkönen family in Atlantic Mine. Minnie's mother was a Juntunen from Suomussalmi. Marie Keranen Pelto attended my great-grandmother's funeral in 1936. I call them the musical Keranen's as I think they owned a music store and had a band. Margaret

Re: Keranen on both sides.. ouchy!
Hi! My great grandmother was Josefiina Keränen from Kestilä, Oulu, Finland. As you probably already know she is a sister of Adam Keränen. Perhaps we have some information to share each other?
