Hi
My Kers were also from this area in Scotland and moved to Ontario in Canada.
Would you like to check out my tree on Geni.com?
Also see other reply from me in this thread with a few more details.

My gggg-grandmother was Margaret Ker, born abt.1750 who married (abt.1770) James Hills of Morebattle and Copeland. (She was already pregnant, possibly by a young scion of the Buccleughs who was killed in battle somewhere.) They had 7 children of which the first-born was Archibald Hills (1771-1836) who never looked like any of his 6 siblings. Archibald married Elizabeth Scott in 1799 and they had 10 children of whom the eldest son was James Hills (1801-1872) who went out to India and made a fortune growing indigo in Bengal.
Margaret Ker is reputed to have been the sister of General Walter Ker, who disputed the Roxburghe inheritance in 1805 - but lost this expensive case in 1812 to Sir James Innes. Do you know anything more about General Walter Ker?
