Nicholas Kephart, Clearfield co. from Switzerland questions
Hello, hopefully someone can clear the fog here a little for me! I have some questions, hopefully someone can clear up for me! 1. If Nicholas was the oldest of the brothers who came over from Switzerland, what are the names of his brothers? 2. Also, I have him as married to Mary Frye (c. 1738-1822), and having a son George 1783-1879, is this correct? 3. Did he and Mary have other children? 4. What were their names? 5. Did George marry Betty Snow, and have Daniel Kephart (1812-1881)? 6. I also have Daniel marrying a Sarah Anna Kephart, same family, distant cousin? 7. Were her parents Adam Kephart and Marie Magdalena Fuchs? I am a decendant of Susan Flora Kephart and Marion Shimmel. Any help appreciated, thank you!!

Re: Nicholas Kephart, Clearfield co. from Switzerland questions
I will try to pull some info from my files as soon as I can for you. I too am related to Kepharts in Clearfield County, PA. and our line goes back through Nicholas, b 1733 d. Jun 1829; who did marry Mary Fry (Frye) 1738-1822. Nicholas was the son of Heinrich Gebhart of Germany and Heinrich married Maria Catharina Andreas of Switzerland. Their son Henry Kephart, SR. b. 14 Mar 1776, d 5 Feb 1858 - disappeared after he got off a stagecoach in Sandy Ridge. He married Charlotte (Catherine) Smith, b. 1776 d. 1857; They had 12 children. One of whom was David, b. 1800 d. 1871 in Frenchville, PA. He married Nancy Ann Hoffman, b. 1801, d. 1866. David and Ann had 8 children, one of whom was Jacob R. b. 1823, d. 1898 who married Rachel Kephart, b. 1827, d. 1872. Rachel's parents were Jonathan Kephart and Elizabeth (Bessie) Goss. Their son, Joseph Austin, b. 1856, d. 1917 was my Great Grandfather. He married Clarissa Belle Kephart, b. 1858, d. 1898 giving birth to son Virgil. Joseph married Alice Long, b 1859 but I have no information on her or her family. I don't know, but have never heard there were any children to this union. They had my Grandmother, Etta Mae Kephart, b. 1888, d. 1974 She married Alfred J. Dumez and settled in Clearfield County, first Ginter and then Fernwood, PA. They had 10 children, one of whom was my Mom, Margie.
That's about all I can tell you about that line.

Re: Nicholas Kephart, Clearfield co. from Switzerland questions
Do you know of a Viola Mae Kephart DOB 1887 parents unknown. Married Edward Kline Quigley gave birth to 3 children: Tampsy Helen, Kline Edward and Novella Catherine as listed on the 1910 census for Sizerville, Pa. Later married a Patrick Sullivan. Any help or leads you can give would be greatly appreciated. Viola is my great grandmother. My mother was estranged from her family and never talked of them. Sincerely Johanna Shortle-Colberg

Re: Nicholas Kephart, Clearfield co. from Switzerland questions
I'm trying to determine how Mary Frye (1738 - 1822) can possibly be the mother of Catherine Kephart (1793-1883). Mary would have been about 55 years old when Catherine was born based on those dates. Mary would haven needed to be born no earlier than about 1748-1750 to get married in 1768 and have her last child in 1793. This leads me to conclude that either Mary Frye is not the mother of Catharine, or that the 1738 birth date for Catherine that everyone on Ancestry seems to have listed is incorrect. Thoughts? Evidence?
