Dear Nora,
I just found your message, and I hope that you may be able to help me. My family is from the townland of Shanagh, in the parish of Barryroe. My grandfather was Patrick Kirby, mygrandmother, Annie Sullivan Kirby, and they had four children. They lived inHouse #3 on the townland, acording to the 1911 census. I can find no relevant information about them, but I have often heard my father speak of a Peter Keohane, whom he knew well. Any help would be so appreciated. N

Dear Nora,
Would you have any information on the residents of the townland of Shanagh, parish of Barryroe? I am seeking information on the occupants of House No. 3 of the 1911 census, being Patrick Kirby, father and Annie Sullivan Kirby, mother. I have often heardmy father speak of one Peter Keohand, whome he knew well, and any facts relative to anyof the abovementioned would be reatly appreciated. I only now came across your 2000 entry, and I hope that all is well with you and that your database has expanded.
God Bless. N

Anyone researching Catholic families in the Barryroe area in West Cork - and living within access to Dublin - may research the RC parish registers held in the National Library, Kildare St., Dublin 2.
Anyone without access to Dublin can hire somebody, eg. me, to look at these registers. Contact me directly at nmhickey@gmail.com.
This is true of all Catholic family research in Ireland.

Peter Keohane was a 2nd cousin of my grandfather, and as he went into business - and was very successful everyone in the area knew him.

The only Keohane - Kirby connection i know of were the parents of a Jeremiah Keohane, who was one of the builders of the Star of the Sea church in the late 1860s.

Is this Jeremiah Keohane the same one who is the father of the famous Composer & Director George M. Cohen? Of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" fame?

The Cohan's changed to that name from the harder to pronounce original Irish name of Keohane.

George M. Cohan as you know, was a famous composer, songwriter, actor, and the first superstar of American show business.

George M. Cohan's father's name was Jeremiah "Jere" Keohane

Speaking of the name "Jeremiah", which was always a popular Irish first name throughout the centuries. Can it be that Jeremiah the prophet came to Ireland, with members of the "lost tribes" of Israel between 583 and 560 BC?

Just wondering if there is any connection with Keohane and the Temple Priests in Jerusalem. A Kohen (or Kohein, Kohanim) is the Hebrew word for priest.

Did the prophet ...Jeremiah (a Chief of Iber) die in Ireland?

Did Jeremiah the Prophet travel to Ireland in 583-560 BC from Egypt around the same time of the destruction of Jerusalem, with: the scribe Baruch, Ebed-Melech, Tea Tephi, and the son of the king of Ireland - who had been in Jerusalem at the time of the siege? Did Jeremiah come to Ireland to build the nation of Israel in the far off "Isles of the West" - and to plant the royal line of David upon Israel's throne in the person of Zedekiahs daughter, Tea Tephi? She is the eldest daughter of Zedekiah & heir to the throne-line of Pharez. Zedekiah was the last king to occupy the throne of Judah. Tea Tephi is also the name of the most celebrated queen in early Irish history....
