http;//genforum.genealogy.com/keenan/messages/665/html & msg posted 23 Mar 2000 by Carla Keenan: "Keenan Homestead Massacre, Texas 1870--My father has been actively researching our heritage for years, and I've recently joined in on the fun. As far as we can get is back to a John Keenan born about 1822 in Germany. There are only like 8 BILLION John Keenan's though, so we're having trouble getting any further. He naturalized in US about 1853, we believe in Tallahassee, Florida. He had been a seaman before coming to US. Settled in Montague County, Texas. His wife's name MAY have been Mary, but we don't know for sure. They had 5 children that we know of. PATRICIA (aka Millie), also a set of twins, GARRETT AND CYNTHIA. The other 2 were killed in an Indian massacre on their home in 1870. The story goes John and Patricia were taking a load of apples to Arkansas, when the Keenan home was raided by Indians. Everyone was killed except the twins. Garrett grew up to marry Harriet Lavena Fennel and they had 4 or 5 children, only 2 living to adulthood: Edna Keenan (later collingsworth by marriage) and Lloyd Leslie Keenan, my paternal grandfather. If this sounds like your branch of the Keenan clan, please contact me! Any info at all would be greatly appreciated, or we'd just like to know you're out there! Please help, we just can't seem to get anywhere! Thanks in advance! Carla sml_on_my_face@hotmail.com " And there are several replies with more info posted by your cousins there. -- Fred
