I don't know if this will be of any help, but I thought I would post this anyway. I have an Elizabeth Kenan born in Duplin Co., NC about 1730. I don't know if this line would be yours but I will look through notes.

It is very possible this is the same line of Kenan's. I have been told by my Grandmother the "Elizabeth" name has been passed through the generations. I myself am Karen Elizabeth. I am very excited about finally getting a reply to my messgae. Any help you can offer would be so greatly appreciated!

Karen, I don't know if this is much help but this is the information I have. I'm afraid it's not very much. Thomas Kenan was born abt 1700 in Northern Ireland. He and his wife Elizabeth (Johnstone) sailed from Port O'Terry to the US sometime in 1730. Their port of entry was Wilmington NC. They settled in the grove settlement of New Hanover Co NC which later became Duplin Co. Thomas Denan acquired vast tracts of land along the Turkey River. He named his plantation Turkey Branch. He and his wife had 7 Children: Elizabeth b.?, James b. 23 Sep 1740, Owen b 1743, Jane b. 1744, Penelope b. 1745, Michael Johnstone b. 26 Aug 1746, Arabella b. 1748. Elizabeth married Thomas Torrans b. abt 1830 in Dobbs Co., NC. They had 8 children. Please let me know if this helps. I have someother information if this is your line.

Cindy, I beleive this could be the same line. The time frame matches. I do not reconize any names but that doesn't mean it is not them. Do you have a John Henry Kenan anywhere in your info?
|
That name does not sound familiar to me, but I will keep looking through my records.

Dear Cindy, I have been researching my Kenan connections for awhile now and was wondering if we might compare notes. Thomas Torrans & Elizabeth Kenan were my great+ grandparents. Their daughter Margaret Torrans married Rev. Samuel Stanford from which I decend. I am trying to find more about the Johnston connection.

Betty, I quess we are cousins abt 16 times removed!!! I descend from Margaret's older sister Agnes Ann who married Francis Stringer Shine. I have some information on the Kenan's and have been working diligently on the Johnstone's. I believe I have followed their line back into Scotland. E-mail me. In the meantime I will collect all my notes on the Johnstones for you. Cindy
