looking for descendents of James keenan born in County Derry, No. Ireland c.1778. as a young lad, he stowed away on a ship to America & was indentured to a minister who made him drop an E from Keenan. James married Catherine Yost orYoust in Wheeling (then Virginia), where my gr,gr. grandfather Silas was born. The family moved to Burgoon, Ohio eventually where Silas married Barbara Overmeyer They are buried in Bettsville Cem. Their son, Oscar Newton lived in Illinois and his son Eugene was my grandfather. Would like James father's name as well as his siblings. Thanks

I'm NOT a relative! You probably have all of this by now. Go to the Illinois Unknown message board and check "date collapsed" messages over the last few days. Watch for B. Norris as the author. Susan descends from the same James K. and Catherine YOST. If you do a land search on the Secretary of State Illinois site, you will find where Edward Keenen (can't remember the exact spelling) got land in Pike Co. Illinois in the Military Tract in 1817. William K. also got land in the Military Tract in 1818 in Knox or Warren Co. Ill. (You'll have to check.) Susan descends from Melissa Keenen, daughter of your James. Melissa married someone with the same last name (various spellings) but Susan doesn't know his name. I figure that James came out here because of William (probably) or maybe Edward. Do you have any idea who Edward and William might be? William was from Ohio. I'm hoping that William had a son the right age who married his "cousin" of some sort. Illinois became a state in 1818 so it was still pretty wild up in the Knox/Warren Co area. According to the info from Bill Smith that I found on a name search on the home page, James immigrated to Warren Co. (now Henderson Co.) Illinois in 1838. That was about the time Melissa would have married. You might want to post a message to Susan. I (underlined) would be interested in finding out who William and Edward are. They would have been vets of the War of 1812 from "the East", I think. I'm surprised that there isn't much on ancestry.com about them since they seemed to have the military connection.
