I am looking to connect with Kenah family members from anywhere in the world.

I am particularly interested in Kenahs who lived in Essex, Union and Hudson Counties in New Jersey.

I believe your John Kenah is my John Kane, his parents were Patrick Kenah and Margaret Cadigan. John was my 4th great grandfather, his son Robert was my great grandmother Margaret's father.

Thank you for your post. My 2nd great grandfather was John Kenah. He was born in the townland of Ballymacoda, city of Youghal in County Cork, Ireland in 1826 or 1830. His father was Patrick Kenah and his mother was Margaret Cadigan. He emigrated to America in 1857. He married Mary Rourke in 1864, in Immaculate Conception Church, Montclair, NJ. Together, they settled on a farm in Caldwell, NJ,and raised five sons and a daughter. He did not have a son named Robert. The Kenah Family of Essex County NJ, now live in several areas of the Country, but still spell the surname KENAH. I have a public tree on Ancestry which you are free to look at. It is the Kenah/O'Brien Family Tree. I have not found anyone in the family named KANE. If you have any questions or if I missed a branch of the family please feel free to contact me. Brand new to this, but, I saw your post so I joined.
My family is originally from Hudson and Essex Counties, NJ (Jersey City & Maplewood). We pronounce it a little different than others; KEN-ah. I'm told that it used to be pronounced Ke-NAH but, that was changed by my great-grandmother. I'm the 4th Thomas (and the last; 2 daughters) Kenah in our family line.

Glad to meet you Thomas. I am also a Thomas. I started Ancestry about ten years ago after my first visit to Ireland.

Are you the Kenah family that moved from northern Jersey to Spring Lake Hts.? Or are the group who left northern NJ for Chicago?

Or the group from Elizabeth and related to Mayor John Kenah of Elizabeth?

We are the group from East Orange. My parents moved to Fairway Mews in mid 70's. I have a lot of information that I will share with you. But first let me know if you are part of one the the groups.

I look forward to hearing back from you.........Thomas Joseph Kenah
