Kelm Family

I am wanting to contact anyone that has information on the Kelm family in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Illinois areas. Specifically I am looking for relatives of Tommy Lee (Kelm) Baukman. His father was Walter Kelm, and he was adopted by the Baukman family after the death of his mother Pearl Oglesby Kelm. I am very interested in getting in touch with the relatives of Walter Kelm, and wish to get more information about him. I am researching my husband's family, and he has never met this side of family. Please contact me with any information. Thank you...

I was very curious about Edward and Justine. My great aunt thought that the mothers maiden name was Buss or something similar? If they were the their parents I would assume there were more siblings.
I may be able to search the 1900-1915 records for Edward Kelm. He lied on his manifest records. His death certificate says he was really born in 1901 (he wrote 1895).
There is also a Gustav Kelm that I was curious if there was a relation
New York, Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island)
Nikolajewka, Russia
20 May 1914
Going to Cleveland to Edward Janke

Hopefully the Zhitomir Archives help out. I would be nice to not be at this dead end!
Yes they do stop at 1885. I am not sure where the 1886 to 1900 church books are.
Did you see the and 1883 marriage for Edward Kelm and Justine Blem.

SGGEE is indexing several parish books from Zhitomir Archives from about 1900 to 1915. Some late 1800;s births are recorded in 1900, 1903 even in 1906.

Rose

Hello! I'm researching a great great grandfather named August Carl Kelm. He supposedly was born in Germany or Prussia around 1841 and married Bertha Hohn born around 1851 in Essen Germany. They lived around Rice County Minnesota around the 1870's. I unfortunately have little to no records prior to this time frame, but I did come across some records of an "A" Kelm living in Le Sueur in 1865 so your post has me interested.

August and Bertha's son Heinrich, or Henry, Kelm married Anna Marie Bosshart from Nerstrand or Fairbault, MN and they eventually moved their whole farming operation to Pembina County, North Dakota.

It there any chance that you have information linking the Le Sueur Kelms to the Rice County Kelms?

I look forward to your response!

Thank you.

My name is Travis Pamenter and my great-grandmother was Elsie (Kelm) Pamenter. She married Harry Thomas Pamenter. They had 4 children: Roy (died in WWII), Evelyn (Pamenter) Dehn (died 1998), Gwendolyn (Pamenter) Bornick, and Lyndon (died 2009). My grandfather was Lyndon Pamenter. He was born in Green Lake, Wisconsin in 1929 and married Ruthie (Zuberbuehler). He passed away in December 2009. There is still one of the 4 children remaining (Gwendolyn "Gwen" Bornick).

Hi all,

I am looking for information on a Gottlieb Kelm, born in the late 1800s and immigrated to Canada on a Manitoba homestead property near Amaranth Manitoba. I have the homestead files, but otherwise have not been able to find any other information about Gottlieb or what became of him. He is likely the brother of my great-grandfather, so I would like to be able to confirm the link.

And help would be appreciated.

Kris

He is buried in Hamburg, Freemont, Iowa, USA (right over the boarder from Nebraska).

Also, would it be possible for you to share the source for Margaret Leisman's exact date of death and that she is buried in Ferdinand as I have been to the library through the records and the Dubois County Records Library claims there is no documentation to support her burial place.

Thank you,
Your 2nd cousin,
Elia7

Update:
In order to obtain the source record for Margaretha Klemm's (Glemm's) death record, we had to work with the film of the original St. Ferdinand Church records at The Jasper Public Library to confirm Margaret's 20 Oct 1850 death.

We also learned that in German, the K and G were used interchangeably and thus the varied spelling of the Klemm and the Glemm surname.

I am searching for descendants of Julius Kelm and his wife Anna Milke.
They never came to the USA.
Anna was my great grandmothers Augusta Milke Eisbrener's sister who migrated to North Dakota. I am providing here all the information we know in hopes that something might ring a bell with someone else.

What I know of my great grandparents is that they were German and of Lutheran faith. They said they lived in Poland and Russia. We have found one document showing their oldest son, Julius, was named after their brother - in - law, Julius Kelm, was born in what is currently called Rivne, Volhynian Governorate, Russia in 1895. Then our family left for Canada and finally North Dakota where their other children were born. During that same time they married and their oldest son was born we believe that Julius & Anna were also there because letter (see below) our family received from their daughter confirms that they were in Wolhynien - which is the same governorate that Rivne is in and that the family had left their to return to there homeland Neuhoff, Kreis, East Prussia (this is near Posen).

I had found a fantasic site describing how that area in Russia Wolhynien / Volhynian grew and it's history and population specifically I have copied the info from the 1800's here - which helped our family understand why we were often confused that our ggrandparents were German who were from Poland and Russia.
------------------------------------------------
http://schultzonline.org/
[After the third Partition of Poland in 1795 Volhynia became a province (gubernia - the Volhynian Governorate) of the Russian Empire. By the end of the 19th century Volhynia had over 200,000 German settlers (colonists), most of whom immigrated from Congress Poland.]

[Volhynia Germans ----The migration of Germans into Volhynia (today covering northwestern Ukraine from a short distance west of Kiev to the border with Poland) occurred under significantly different conditions than those going to other parts of Russia. Their migration began at the encouragement of local noblemen, often Polish landlords, who wanted to develop their significant land holdings in the area. Probably 75% or more of them originated from Russian Poland with the balance coming directly from other regions such as East and West Prussia, Pomerania, Posen, Württemberg, and Galicia among others. Although the noblemen themselves offered certain perks for the move, the Germans of Volhynia received none of the special tax and military service freedoms attributed to the Germans in other areas.

The settlement started as a trickle shortly after 1800. A surge occurred after the first Polish rebellion of 1831 but by 1850, they were still only about 5000 in number. The largest migration came after the second Polish rebellion of 1863 when they began to flood into the area by the thousands until they reached their peak at about 200,000 in the year 1900. The vast majority of these Germans were of the Lutheran (in Europe they were referred to as Evangelicals) faith. Limited numbers of Mennonites from the lower Vistula River region settled in the south part of Volhynia while Baptists and Moravian Brethern also arrived, mostly settling northwest of Zhitomir. Another major difference between the Germans here and in other parts of Russia is that the other Germans tended to settle in larger communities. The Germans in Volhynia were scattered about in over 1400 villages. Though the population peaked in 1900, many Germans had already begun leaving Volhynia in the late 1880s for North America.]
http://schultzonline.org/
--------------------------------------------------

NOW BACK TO MY QUESTION ON THE ANCESTORS FROM EUROPE I AM SEARCHING FOR

Julius Kelm and Anna Milke had children Herta, Hilda, Olga, Rudolph and Frama (born 1919) Kelm. Frama wrote a letter to our family in the US sometime in the 1940's and it is the only information we have on the Julius Kelm and Anna Milke Kelm descendants. Here is the letter:
====================================
"Someday you will receive this letter from an hertofore strange land, as you did not yet know of my existence. For at the time you were all united I was not yet born. I was born in 1919 and the last letter that my parents received from you was in 1915 after they returned to their own land after the first flight.
Since that time many things have happened. Now at last we are again forced out of our own homeland, forced to go into middle Germany.
If our father had not been so determined to remain there when you so urged him to cross the waters, many worries may have been saved or rather spared us.
Now I will make known to you who I am. I am the last descendant of your sister and brother in law, Julius Kelm and Anna Milke from Wolhynien, Russia. They later migrated to Germany in 1903.
I am still in Newhoff, Kreis, East Prussia, where I was born in 1919. Both of my parents are in weakened condition. From all of us children, only five are living.
My oldest brother Rudolph, who was born in Russia is displaced or in prison in East Prussia.
If you can remember Herta, she is in Denmark. Perhaps there is yet a chance to be reunited and get acquainted with our relatives. I have for sometime secretly hoped to meet you Uncle and Aunt and child, but then came the Nazi regime and then came the war and all was hopeless. Often have we spoken of having Aunts and Uncles but away far out in the world somewhere. Now are hopes are very faint. In closing this letter I send you all Uncles and Aunts and relatives heartiest greetings from your niece Frama. Also from my parents and sisters Olga and Hilde, I am to send you all their heartiest greetings.
ABS; Frama Kelm
======================================

Thanks for any help.
I can be reached at helen_lallo at yahoo
I can not see your family tree as I am not paying for ancestry. It became too expensive. Plus three more children, all born in the small village of Borki which is a few kilometers NE of Dabie and about 3 kilometers from Grabow. The parents are Andreas Kelm and Anna Kristine Jesse but I do not know where they came from.

SGGEE hosts an open Ger-Poland-Volhynia mailing list on which we discuss mainly Germans in Congress Poland area.
I have been researching morris kelm for a friend. Morris was married twice. His first wife was named Ellen and they had 5 children: Kate (1856) James P (1858) Charles (Mar 1861) John M (1863) and Morris Jr (1867). Ellen died in 1877. Morris's second wife was Margaret Coughlin. They had 2 stillborn babies. Morris died from Brights disease on Nov 6, 1902. Morris had at least 2 brothers, James (1823-aug 29 1897) and Francis (1824-jun 6 1914). Their parents were James and Unity Kelm. I believe they were from Donegal.

Kelm is a surname in my husband's family. Our records go back no further than Johann Kelm b 1800 in Prussia, his wife was Sophie Ringsleben. Their children were: Ernestine Henriette Kelm 1823-1897, August Kelm 1826-1910, Edward Carl Frederick Kelm 1830-1907, Julius Friedrich Kelm 1834-1890, Herman Frederick Kelm 1839-1928. Herman Kelm is my husband's great grandfather, he immigrated to the US about 1866 and settled in Wisconsin.

I got my DNA results back from ancestory.com. The likely migration of my family is from Isreal and Lebanon to Iraq (Persia/Babylonia) to the mountains of Georgia (south of Russia). According to the report of a member with a DNA match close to that of my own (within 6 generations) in Canada, we went to Kiev, Ukraine. According to PGGF induction paper we continued to live in Russia. Based on the testimony of my PGF we ended up on the Poland German boarder. At the time this would likely have been know as the "Pale of Settlements" in the Russian Empire on the border of the Prussian Empire.

His father Julius Kelm (or Kellum) as he spelled it said he was Russian on his induction papers. It appears that he did go to Germany but made it to Penn before dying in his 30's.
Hi all,

I'm just new to this and trying to get some traction. My grandfather's name was Herman Fredrick Kelm, born in Minsk, Russia. He immigrated with family to a homestead land grant in Manitoba, likely near Neepawa. He had a brother, Arthur, who died early from an accidental gunshot wound while hunting. I believe he had four sisters, as well. Herman served in the RCAF as a driver and then a chef, and married Janna Roerink of the Netherlands.

Does anybody have any info that might fill in some blanks further back than Herman? I'm having a tough time wading through all of the Kelms that appear to be on here!

EDIT: I have since learned that Herman's parents were Ludwig and Emilia Kelm, who died in Plumas, Manitoba.

Thanks!
