My gg-grandfather was John Kellison, brother of Robert Logan Kellison. Their parents were William and Matilda (Lawson) Kellison. I found a will for a David Lawson that names Matilda wife of William Kellison as one of his children. If you would like more information let me know.

My Great Grandfather was Lewis C Kellison of Miller County, Missouri. My grandfather was John Gabriel Kellison who moved from Missouri to Oklahoma and then to Colfax County, New Mexico.

Have you had any luck locating Stofer Kellison, your great-grandfather? I know who he married, where and when. I know where and how and when he died. I know who his parents were claimed to be at that time - but I can't prove it.

Michael - not a Kellison, but interested

I have found out who my great granparents are...Stofer was married to Cecilia Alderman who passed away in July of 1976 in Norfolk Va..Stofer was killed in a logging accident in Marlinton when a chain broke from the logs and pinned him..I have picture's of both them...I know my great grandfather is buried in Marlinton in the Kellison Cem..I do not know who is parent's are...Please, let me know what you have found out also..I would like to know more...

Here's what I know, or think I know, much of which may already be known to you, too.

Cecilia F (Alderman) Kellison is the easiest to explain. She was born in Pocahontas Co, WVa, in Oct 1878, a daughter of John A and Emily (Gillespie) Alderman, and married Stofer D Kellison in Pocahontas Co, 19 Oct 1899.

Cecilia's mother was born Mar 1837, in Pocahontas Co - then State of Virginia - a daughter of Jacob and Mary (Bird) Gillespie and a granddaughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Rider) Bird. Elizabeth was a child of William Rider of Bath Co, Va, as was my ancestor, Richard Rider.

Cecilia's father was born 7 Mar 1826, on Douthard's Creek in Pocahontas County, a son of Daniel and Susannah (Wade) Alderman. Emily was John's third wife. His father, Daniel Alderman, was a son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Holcomb) Alderman, parents of the first Alderman family in that part of western Virginia. Ezekiel and Elizabeth were both born in Hartford Co, Connecticut, and came to Virginia in the late 1700s. They married in Greenbrier Co, Va, 17 Mar 1791, and were also cousins on both sides of their respective families. I descend from Elizabeth (Holcomb) Alderman's brother, Timothy.

This Alderman family traces its ancestry to William Alderman, of Farmington, Connecticut, who died in 1697. The Holcombs descend from Thomas Holcomb, also of Connecticut, who died in 1657.

Stofer Kellison is more difficult to pin-down, precisely. His death certificate may be found here:

Stofer's death certificate claims that his parents were John and Jane (Rhinehart) Kellison, but so far I have found no such couple. Personally, I suspect - though I cannot prove - that Stofer was born Edgar D Stofer Kellison, son of Sarah Jane Dean and John McNeil Kellison. In the census of 1880, this couple reportedly had a son, "Edgar D S", who was said to be seven-years-old. Susan Nevada Kellison, a sister of this Edgar D S, married George Fountain Alderman, brother of Cecilia.

I don't feel like I am that familiar with the Kellisons or at least in this particular case I don't seem to be familiar enough. My parents were born just across the state line from Pocahontas Co, in Bath Co, Virginia. My mother's father - Rexford George Ryder - was born in Pocahontas Co, as was his father, and so on.

As a consequence, it's difficult to avoid knowing at least a little about these families. After the first century or so, most everyone is related to everyone else.
