Thanks so very much for replying and contacting me. My wife is the great granddaughter of James Kehew, brother of Cornelius. James lived on Union St., about a half block south of the Hawthorne Hotel and Cornelius lived at the SW corner of Herbert and Derby St. (Now a liquor store) Actually, Cornelius lived in a number of different locations but they ended up almost side by side in the end. Speaking of the end, my wife and I visited the Kehoe, Cleary, Connelly, etc. gravesite about three years ago on the day after memorial Day. In fact, there were fresh flowers in the Connelly memorial in front of the stone. We just missed someone's visit. Cornelius' brother James' grave is slightly to the north, just east of Avenue 16, between Oak Ave. and St. Michael Rd. in the cemetery.
I have very little information on the lynches. Honorah, b. 1841, was the daughter of James Lynch and Ellen Lane, b. 1793. Both were born in Ireland and Ellen died in Salem in 1888. They had another daughter, Bridget who was born in Salem in 1838.
On the Kehew side, I have a great deal more. Much of the basic information which got me going was researched by Marie Cruikshank, Research Librarian of the Collingwood Public Library, Collingwood, Ontatio, Canada. Cornelius was a baptismal sponsor and wedding witness in Collingwood several times between 1860 and 1865. Cornelius first appeared in Salem MA in 1868 when he was baptismal sponsor for his nephew, Daniel J. Kehoe. In 1870, he was married in Salem MA. Cornelies' marriage record lists his father's name as Roday. Cornelius' name was found again in Collingwood records, apparently as a visitor, when he was a witness at a wedding in 1889. A naturalization record, dated 15 Sep 1884, for a Cornelius Kehoe of Salem indicates that he was born in Co. Tipperary, Ireland on 29 Jul 1843 and entered the U.S. through Boston on 5 July 1858. His marriage record, however, indicates that he was 32 years old when married in 1870 (thus having been born in 1838). City Directories for 1888-1894 indicate that Cornelius lived at 45 Charter St. in Salem. Cornelius' death record indicates that his residence in was 28 Herbert St. Cornelius' obituary in the Salem Evening News on January 13, 1906, indicated that he was 65 years old. If that were correct, he would have been born in 1841. We obtained a deed for the property transfer at 28 Hebert St. for $950 from S.W. Pease to Honora and Cornelius Kehoe, dated 25 April, 1878. By 1999, that property, which was on the northwest corner of Derby St. and Hebert St. in Salem, had been torn down and replaced by a liquor store. He is buried in lot 33, St. Francis Path in St. Mary's Cemetery, which is on the north side of Salem. Located Cornelius' sister Anne's marriage record in the Ontario Archives (copy obtained) and noted that she was married under the name McKeogh.
After finding Ann's marriage record, we researched Cornelius' parents in County Tipperary and found them in Gortlassabrien townland, Ballina parish, County Tipperary. They were Roger McKeogh and Jane MacNamarra. Gortlassabrien is about ten miles southwest of Nenagh. Cornelius and James had at least two sisters, Ann and Sarah. They arrived with Cornelius and Ann's husband in Collingwood Ont. in about 1855 and remained there until their deaths. James first showed up in Beverly MA in the 1860 census.
In 2000, after visiting Salem, I corresponded with Sheila Henry, whom I think is your aunt???. She told me there were, in fact two still-born children, both children of John J. Connelly and Eleanor Conners. I suspect you know a lot more about that than I do. Sheila said she is a niece of John J. and Eleanor.
I really appreciate the information you sent. It fills in some holes for us. I have continued to wonder if Cornelius and Hanorah only had the one child, Mary Jane Kehoe. Do you know if that was the case? What a strange Irish family that would have been in the 1870's. Thanks again.
