WicCopee — Sara Dee Kegan, 53, of Wiccopee, died Feb. 15, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, from complications of breast cancer.
Born in Colfax, Wash., Dec. 5, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Dana F. Crumb and Delia C. (Meiner) Crumb. On Feb. 5, 1966 in Wells and on June 18, 1966, at St Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, she married John J. Kegan.
She was a speech pathologist at Orange/Ulster BOCES, Goshen. She was a 43-year Dutchess County resident, having previously resided in Walla Walla, Wash. She was a member of the Chelsea Yacht Club; Sara was a world class sailor, having competed in national and international competitions. Sara was an accomplished folk music singer/songwriter and guitarist. She was the lead vocalist for Druid Moon, an Irish folk group, and she had sung with such artists as the Chapin Brothers.
Sara also was an avid gardener. She was a graduate of Roy C. Ketcham High School, receiving a Regents diploma. Sara attended SUNY Plattsbugh. She was an honors graduate of SUNY New Paltz, where she received her B.S. in speech pathology, and where she was pursuinq her masters degree in reading, K-12.
Survivors include her mother, Dee Crumb, Walla Walla, Wash.; her husband, John J. Kegan, Salt Point; one son, Kevin J. Kegan, Wiccopee; two daughters, Kellie Ann Kegan and Britt Erin Kegan, both of New York City; a sister, Chris Bosbach, Austin, Texas; two brothers, Dan R. Crumb, Lakewood, Colo. and Neil R. Crumb, Kennewick, Wash.; several aunt and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Friday, Feb. 18, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 126 Main Street, Fishkill, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the Most Reverend James F. McCarthy, a long time family friend, officiating. Burial will follow in St Denis Cemetery, Hopewell Junction.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Sara D. Kegan to Orange/Ulster BOCES, Special Education Facility, c/o Marguerite Flood, Director of Special Education, 53 Gibson Road, Goshen, N.Y. 10524, for the purchase of books and music for a room to be dedicated in her memory.
