I'm interested in connecting with any Kefsky's to see if we have a common line. I have researched my line from Portland, Or. to Milwaukee, WI. to St Louis MO. to the L'ubica, Szepes, Hungary region. Church records to 1751 help document the family including conversion from Catholic to Lutheran church membership. Over the years various family members disappeared from the church records, most likely emmigrating to the US.

My direct ancestor is Ernst Kiofszky who was born in 1864 in L'ubica, Hungary. He was the youngest son of Johann Kiofskzy and second wife Anna Maria Emeritzy who married 29 Nov 1853. He had 2 older sisters - Amalie Mathilde Kiofszky who married Friedrich Wilhelm Emeritzy on 26 Apr 1874 and Johana Marie Kiofszky who married John Nepom. Brun on 28 Oct 1882. All events occured in L'ubica, Szepes, Hungary.

Johann Kiofszky was married first to Anna Emeritzy on 7 Jul 1835 and had 6 known children of which 2 survived childhood. Eldest son Johan Friedrich Kiofszky married Anna Marie Trogler on 30 Sep 1860 and youngest daughter Paulina Eva Kiofszky married Frank Johannides on 1 May 1870. All events occured in L'ubica, Szepes, Hungary.

Hi-

I hope you are still getting emails regarding Kefsky's. My grandma, Mary Townsend (Kefsky was her surname) had siblings in the cleveland area of Ohio. Her sisters and brothers were: Ann Kefsky, Michael Kefsky, Helene Kefsky (changed to Keefe) and my great uncle Alexander Kefsky (changed spelling to Keefe). The family is originally from Russia and I remember my grandma telling me the border kept changing to Hungry, so one or two of her siblings were actually born in Hungry.

I am hitting a dead-end doing my family tree on her side :-(

please email me if you have more: nikthegreat2003@gmail.com

Thank you-
Alexandra

Alexandra -

Thanks so much for writing. Yes, I'm still receiving emails, however yours is the first one I've received!

I found your family in Cleveland about 15 years ago and did some research on them. I have a death certificate for Alex, Mary (wife), Ann and Michael Kefsky (children), obits and cemetery burial information for all of them.

I've also found the Declaration of Intention for Alex's naturalization but didn't follow up on it after seeing he was born in Kiev (writing is hard to read), Austria. My Kiovsky family came from L'ubica, Szepes County, Hungary.

I've done research in the church records of L'ubica area back to 1715 on my line and Alexander wasn't a name I found in the records. However, there are many children over the years that disappeared from the church books, so I'm not sure if or how our lines connect.

Are you on Ancestry? You might be able to find the naturalization file which could have more information. Have you looked at the catalog of the FHL (LDS) records? That is where I was able to find the church records for my line.

I have had my dad do a DNA test with Family Tree DNA because he is the last Kefsky male that I know of in our line. Is there a male in your family that can do this? that would probably be the only sure way to find out if we are related somewhere "back there".

Let me know if you want any copies as I can scan them and email them to you.

Jeanette (Kefsky) Hopkins
