Surnames: Keffer, Archard, Stangle
My dad was born as Henry Martin Keffer in Agate Beach, OR in 1930. His mother was Nellie Archard whose parents were from the Dakotas. Both parents were alleged Blackfeet indians. My dad changed his name to Robert Donald Stangle in 1953. He died in Nevada in 1982. Any information you have pertinent to my search on his history would be appreciated.

Don,

I have your ancestry back to John & Rachel Keffer in Jackson County, Missouri. John was born in Ohio about 1795 and Rachel in Kentucky.

I don't have Nellie's ancestry.

If you don't have it back this far, let me know.

Jim

Hello,
I realize that this post is 15 years old, but if you are still wondering about the tall tales of our indian heritage, I am afraid they seem to be farfetched. I am a Great-Grandaughter of Henry Keffer and Nellie Mae Archer. I recently had my DNA traced along with my mothers who would be grandaughter of the Keffers. Both of our samples came back as having no trace of indian heritage whatsoever. I am not sure where this legend originated. I think sometimes when someone was born with dark skin, eyes and hair perhaps it was attributed to some mystery indian bloodline without any proof to substantiate. Perhaps the suggestion was born from a time when they lived in a town called "Running Waters, Sioux Nebraska"? I encourage you to get the DNA test yourself to be certain, but as far as I am concerned, we have no ties to the American Indians. And it seems that this was confirmed on every record I have found for Nellie Mae and Henry Keffer where they always marked "white" when asked for race.
