Surnames: Keech, Johnston, Sherwood, Sickles
I see a couple people have posted extensive family histories under Public Family Trees for Edward Lemuel Keech born about 1860, died 1931 at Fort Smith, Arkansas- he was married to Sarah Jane Sickles, however these folks have posted that this Edward was the son of George Keech and Lodelia Keech of Oneida County, New York. That is absolutely wrong.

Edward Keech the son of George and Lodelia committeed suicide on October 2, 1900 at the town of Western in Oneida County, New York. He was married to Mary BRILL and had one son and one daughter.

I am always amazed and horrified that people can go trolling online and find a particular man or woman on a census and say- Hey, this must be him or her and then slap them up on Ancestry in a family tree with absolutely no proof whatsoever of a connection or relationship. Ancestry family trees are full to overflowing of terribly WRONG GENEALOGIES because of this practice. Don't ever take for gospel what people post, check it out yourself, find proof for every single relationship and family attachment.

I have a file on the Keech's of Oneida County and a file on Edward Lemuel Keech as well.

When he married Sarah Jane Sickles in 1882, Edward named his parents as Stephen Keech and Mercy Johnston. However, it is entirely possible that Edward was not a Keech but a Sherwood because his mother Mercy was apparently first married to a man named Charles Sherwood. I don't know anything about the Sherwood's. I have not looked at this file in a long time but was in correspondence with another researcher named Dana who most likely has more information than I do.
