KEDDY,KEDY,KEDDIE,KIDDY,KADY
I am looking for any information on the surname Keddy. My descendents, Alexander Keddy, his wife and two boys, sailed out of London on the Cornwallis ship the "Winchelsea" in 1749 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I have reason to believe that they may have come from Scotland but am not sure. If anyone has any information could you please email me to the address given above. Thank you.

The following was taken from a real estate listing on the old Keddy House, in Mahone Bay, NS, Canada. Unfortunately, I do not have a date for the listing, or where it originated. The listing states "Mahone Bay's first and oldest residence -- the Keddy Home, built 1756, complete with bake ovens, has 4 bedrooms, living room, and parlor with fireplace. It sits on a beautiful lot overlooking the waters of Mahone Bay." With the listing were excerpts from the December 25, 1963 edition of the Bridgewater Bulletin, from Bridgewater, NS. The article excerpts read as follows:
The Keddy Family Pioneer Settlers of Mahone Bay
Alexander Keddy and his two sons, Alexander and William, left London, Eng., sometime before the year 1758. It was possible they arrived earlier within the 1700s, because the first parliament met in Halifax in October, in the year 1758, and Alexander Keddy Sr. was among its first member.... ....The first named Alexander Keddy lived the greater part of his life in Mahone Bay, when coming here from London more than 200 years ago. He occupied crown land which was an entire woods. He began preparing the land and did farming as well as some fishing. He also was elected a member of the first General Assembly, Canada's first parliament, and the beginning of representative government in the nation.... ....when we or most of us learn of the lineage of Alexander Keddy, we will speak of him as a very strong tree and pioneer, there being many, many branches or generations. They are as leaves scattered abroad, in Mahone Bay, Canada, the United States, and even we shall say, throughout the world. These two Keddys, Alexander and William, and their descendants, have for the most part, lived quiet lives. Most of the happenings that they knew and talked bout are for the most part forgotten events to us today. They will mean very little to the other heritage in the next 100 years.
I hope this will be of some use to you.
