Reposting: William Keating, b. Ireland, 1799 - on 1850 Alabama Census

Researching William Keating, married to Frances, who is also born in Ireland. They are on the 1850 Alabama census with four young people - all with the last name of Adams. The Adams siblings were all born in Tennessee. Their ages range from 21 to 12.
Also in the household is James Hendricks, age 22, blacksmith, born in PA.
Any information about the Keatings, and especially the Adams children, would be appreciated.

I have a match with the Ann Pike and Michael Lawler -- my great grandfather was Michael Lawler son of Annie Pike and I did not have a first name for my great grandfather. If you have supporting information, I'd love to share. They were originally living in Schuylkill, Pa and then I see that Annie is living in Cincinnati, Ohio with her son Michael and two of her brothers -- James Pike and Thomas Pike (1880 Census). Please respond.

Catherine Keating 1842-1910, possible Cahirciveen

Hi:

I'm researching Catherine Keating, born 1842 in Ireland, died 1910 in Boston, MA. She was married to Patrick Hayes, Feb. 1865 in Boston. Her parents were listed as John and Mary Keating, from Ireland, on her marriage license. It's possible Catherine was from the Cahirciveen line. Does anyone have a Catherine being born to John and Mary there about 1842?

Thanks,
James Lowder

Re: Keatings from Offaly

Hi Brendan --

Thanks for reaching out! I've been watching the work you and Eilis have been doing for Lisa and I was getting jealous!

The two Keating Families in Offaly -- when I was in Daingean several years ago, I was amazed that there were two Keating families in town and they both swore the were not related to the other. The town's total population is about 800 people! I just figured something took place between them and has never been forgotten . . .

I have been stuck finding any info on Matthew Keating. He died sometime between 1834 and 1864 (1834 is the Baptismal date for his last born child, Thomas, in Barnaboy and 1864 is when his wife Margaret Handiboe died as a widow -- buried in Kilclonfert Cemetery). She was born around 1789 as her gravestone indicates she was 75 when she died in 1864. (I've come to believe that their first born son was Michael in 1816 -- not my Peter 1818 -- because a Michael Keating is buried in Kilclonfert Cemetery as well and he his first born son appears to have been named Matthew -- buried in the same plot.

There is a Bridget Keating that shows up as a sponsor to Thomas (1834), a Mary Keating who married John Dane who Matthew is a sponsor for their son Michael in 1821, and a James Keating who is a sponsor to daughter Maryann (1827) -- I'm thinking they all could be Matthew's siblings given the dates. Then there is a Thomas and Catherine Handiboe who are sponsors for Matthew's son Matthew in 1823 -- I'm thinking they are Margaret's brother and sister-in-law. But this is all supposition -- any thoughts?

Michael is my 4th cousin, I have spoken to him about the warrent, and he says it does not exist, he has never been charged or arigned before the courts, innocent until proven guilty. It was all part of a dirty tricks campaign and from recent revelations we can all see what has been going on in Irish politics over the last number of years. Another of my cousins was Frank McBrearty's senior counsel, was he guilty?

Brendan

I carried out some research lately for a girl in CT who was researching her ancestor Arthur Keating who came from outside Tullamore in Co. Offaly. The Keatings from Phillipstown semm to have been related to them. There seems to have been two distinct Keating familys in Offaly both descended from James Keating 1552-1626 who was married to Margaret Wadding 1555-. They had migrated to Co. Kildare from Co. Kilkenny.

James grandson Arthur who was born 1605 moved to Tullamore, he had 3 sons and 1 daughter, I believe that one of them started the Phillipstown line.

We were very lucky with Arthur as we found a large headstone with all the names and dates inscribed.

Brendan

Keatting Kaitting Keating success story

I am the group administrator for the Keating surname project. There is a sale now, for the month of July only, on the DNA kits. The prices are:

Y-DNA37 – promotional price $119 (reg. price $149)

Y-DNA67 – promotional price $199 (reg. price $238)

mtDNAPlus – promotional price $119 (reg. price $149)

I have a great success story regarding the DNA testing. I have been at the "brick wall" for over 15 years now. I got a male from my family to test his DNA and a man in Canada, who I suspected was part of the same family but could not find a paper trail, to also test his DNA. The results were an exact 37 marker match and within a month I was able to find the common ancestor.
Please contact me for more information. To get this great price the kits must be ordered through the surname project.
Kathy Keatting-Hull

The dates I know are John Keating born 1865 Ireland died 1926 Watsonville, California. My grandmother Annie Fitz-simmons was born in Ireland 1870 and died in 1939 Watsonville, California. My father Stephen was born 1897 Manhattan, New York and died 1950 Los Angeles, California. The information I have found is pretty consistent on dates but birthplace seems to be different places in Ireland at different times. I have paid different genealogy companies in Ireland and found no sure record of either one.

I have just joined ancestry and was very interested in looking at the messages regarding Bernard Keating. My great grandfather is a Bernard Keating born in Maghery Armagh around 1835. His parents were James Keating and Ellen Donnelly. He married Rosanna McGinnis in 1869 and travelled to Horsham Victoria Australia.
I don't know if he would be a member of your Keatings, but hope you may have more information about them.
Regards
Penny

Follow-up to message dated 12-8-2008:

"I have no knowledge of other children born to this marriage".

Upon further research, there were 4 children born to John Keating in Dublin between 1812 & 1828;
Catherine 1812, Mary 1816, Anne 1819, & Pat 1821.

Still looking for any connection.

Ed (Pat) Logan of Philly
Hi Brendan,

How's the weather In Ireland??

I think I've found what I've been searching for. I'm not 100%, as my documents only show Mary Keating, not Mary Anne. I can understand DOB is a year out as I've come across this many times before...I thought she was born in 1879.

Anyway, I value your opinion and would love to hear what you think.

Cheers, Lisa

Hi Brendan,

I had a reply from "groireland" today (see attached).
Obviously the wrong record.
I've requested another search, fingers crossed!!

Cheers, Lisa

Oh Wow, how beautiful. I'm definitely adding these photos to my tree.

Can't believe you both sent link at same time (funny).

Now I want to visit the UK (where I was born), and Ireland even more. I can't thank you both enough for all of this information.

I will be ordering Mary's birth certificate tomorrow, as soon as I get it I'll post it here (now that I've realised I can add pictures).

Cheers to you both,
Lisa
