Hi Mary,
Ellis Island didn't open until 1892 which is after your ancestors emigrated from Ireland.
Ships passenger records really aren't helpful in trying to find where your ancestors were born in Ireland because you don't know which of the emigrants with your ancestors names on ships passenger records for various ports are yours.
The Keating surname is one found all over Ireland in all 32 counties in the nineteenth century. Therefore you need to research your particular ancestor's civil and church records in the US to find their specific birthplaces in Ireland as well as their dates of birth and parents names.
Regards.
