I am looking for Bernard Keating's birthplace in Ireland. He was born about 1840. I have not been able to trace him back beyond leaving Glasgow in 1870 with his wife (Margaret Coleman) and their children. When they arrived in the US, they settled in Maryland

I have been told of three Bernard Keatings (2 born in 1835 and one in 1836) in the Keady parish of Co. Armagh. I have their parents names but no information on their later lives. A fair number of Keatings from the Keady area migrated to Glasgow. Email me at annegreen@netzero.net if you would like to know more about Keatings from Keady and surrounding area. Coincidentally, I live in Maryland so let me know if I can help you around here.

I really appreciate your getting back to me. I believe that my Bernard Keating was born about 1840. I have information regarding his immigration to the US on the Europa in 1870. The records show that he was 30 years old -- but maybe that is off by a few years. I would appreciate any information that you could provide on their early years. I am really at a loss at this point.

Hi Kelly,

Here is all of my sparse information on the Bernard Keatings from the Keady, Co. Armagh area, courtesy of the late John Keating of Clay Townland, Keady parish, Co. Armagh.

Bernard Keating, born March 1835, was the son of Hugh Keating and Betty Murray.

Bernard Keating, born October 1835, was the son of Michael Keating and Ellen Donnelly. His brother John Keating was born in Sep 1826.

Bernard Keating, born April 1836, was the son of Michael Keating and Mary Feighan.

I do not know if any of them moved to Scotland.

I have just joined ancestry and was very interested in looking at the messages regarding Bernard Keating. My great grandfather is a Bernard Keating born in Maghery Armagh around 1835. His parents were James Keating and Ellen Donnelly. He married Rosanna McGinnis in 1869 and travelled to Horsham Victoria Australia.
I don't know if he would be a member of your Keatings, but hope you may have more information about them.
Regards
Penny

Hi Penny,
I find your Bernard Keating interesting. I know there were a few Keatings in Griffith's valuation in the Maghery
?Parish?. I have a few urgent issues to deal with at home today but will (re)organize my Keating data this week. It has been a while since I have concentrated on the Keatings.
Please email me at annegreen@netzero.net so we can exchange email as well as message board posts. Thanks. Anne Green

Thank you for your note. My great-great grandfather was also from the same county -- but he came to Maryland (US) and was married to Margaret Coleman.
I have very limited information for this generation. Bernard Keating (that is, my Bernard Keating) moved to the US from Scotland. He was working there in the coal mines outside of Glasgow.

I will let you know if I find any information that may impact you.

Cheers!

Kelly Keating
