I am looking for relatives of or information on the Kazar family. My great grandmother was Justina Kazar and immigrated to the US from Poland. She married Vincent Grodus and had seven children. I know they lived in Shamokin, PA for a while where Vincent worked in the coal mines. There may be members of the Kazar family in either PA or NY. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there... I have some information on the Kazar family. My great gradparents are Bertha and Charlie Kazar, who lived in Shamokin, Pa. They had 8 children. They are Frank, Florence, Elsie, Violet, Vincent. They were 2 boys and Mildred who died at a young age. Both Frank and Florence better known by their nicknames. Frank was Chnookie and Florence was Tootsie. I hope this helps and feel free to respond.

The Kazar family I'm looking for consisted of a brother and 2 sisters. The girls names were Justina and Helen (I think). I don't know what the brother's name was. I have heard a family story that talks about the three being smuggled out of Poland after the deaths of their parents at the hands of the German occupiers sometime around 1912. It is believed that the family was murdered because of Jewish blood on their mother's side (she may have been a Russian Jew). Does this story sound familiar to anyone?

Hi,

I know this is an old post, but I just came upon it. I am sure the Grodus's you are asking about were my grandparents. If you have found out any information on them please e-mail me I would be very interested in knowing more of their story. My mom is Victoria one of the daughters there also was Ann, Helen, Jo, Frank, Eddie and Bernice I believe. My mom is not well and has been talking a lot about her mom and dad, telling stories that have sparked an interest in all of us. Any thing you have found out would be appreciated.

Hello...and yes, this would be your family. My grandmother was Ann, the eldest of the Grodus-Kazar children. I would be very interested in talking to you and sharing family stories. My grandmother never talked much about her parents. I would love to hear about your mom's stories. Please feel to contact me via e-mail at aheavener@uamail.albany.edu. I would especially love to hear any stories about the family's immigration to the USA.

Annie

My mom is Jo Nevius. Her mom was Justina and her dad was Vincent. Although I never met Aunt Ann, she wrote a few times and even shared her recipe for pumpkin squares that I still treasure. Mom said one of my cousins had info about Grandma coming to the US and the possible Jewish connection. I would be very interested in exchanging info\stories with any of you about the family. Mom lives with us now in Virginia and occasionally talks to Uncle Eddie. One piece of info I had heard was that great grandma's first name was Petronella...not sure about the validity of this.
