Hi Jasmin,

First let me say it is wonderful to see a young person take such an interest in her family!

I am also a Kaye descendant, but mine came from England through Canada to the US and there are still Kaye's in Canada :0)

If you could supply a little more information on your grandfather and great grandfather, like birthdate and place, marriage place and to whom, and death dates and places. As much as you know an it will us know if we do have them in our families.

Good Luck with your research
Sincerely Yours
Julia Hogston

I am sorry this is so late, but I do have a Kaye from Bellough, Isle of Man connection. So far I don't have a Charley, but my line is decended from a James Kaye b. 2/22/1839 in Bellough Isle of Man and he died 1919. Perhaps there is a connection but I am just starting this part of the tree.

Hello There!
I just asked my parents about James Kaye, and they werent much help, as they are half asleep right now, but the entire Kaye name do originate from Isle of Man apparently.

Do you have any details on who James Kaye married, where he died, children, occupation ect.

I still have to get a family tree off my Kaye Grandparents, and im not getting far with me researching.
Well hope to hear from you soon,
Jasmin

James Kaye married Annie Cowin on 8/1/1858 in Waukesha WI. Annie was born 2/12/1839 in Kirk Lonan Laxey (? where is this?) and she died in 1913.
James Kaye was born 2/22/1839. His mother's maiden name was Colquist. I have info on children but nothing more about his parents.

Hi, Jasmin
Thought the following might interest you.

Our family originates from Patrick in the Isle of Man and over the last three years we have been going over to the island to do research.

During our research, looking at wills, parish and court records, we have found at least twelve ways of spelling the name. The name is recorded in 1408 as McKee and in the mid 1600s the Mc part of the name began to fall out of use.
We have a copy of a court document dated 1740 in which it is recorded: "Ballaglonney - John McKey to John Key his grandson. John McKey and Thomas his son are dead and John Key is entered as right heir according to the custom of this Barony".

Ballaglonney was the family farm.

There are records of rents being paid by the McKees (Kayes) for the farm in 1511.

As you can see, the Kayes are a very old Manx family and the "e" did not appear at the end of the name until the 1800s and in fact some members of the family still spell the name as Kay.

The only Charles we have found in the family is Charles Quane Kaye (1851) who emigrated to New Zealand.

Above all, in your own research don't be too rigid in the spelling of the name. We have one will where it is spelt three different ways.

Best of luck with your research, we are probably related somewhere in history. If you want to e-mail us direct we can give you more details of our findings.

Regards

Irene and Bill Kaye

Further to our previous message, you could find this site useful:- http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulle... There are lot of very knowledgeable people there who could be very helpful. You'd need to give them as much information as you can, names and dates etc.

Sorry we didn't mention this earlier, we've just remembered it.
