Am looking for info. on the William Kaye Bell Foundry, located in Louisville, KY in the 19th century. Foundry manufactured a bell that currently hangs in the Henry Co., KY courthouse (restoration efforts are underway for this bell, and a history of the company is sought). Would like more info. on William Kaye, his company, or anything on foundries at this time period.

Re: Wm. Kaye Bell Foundry
Hello Helen, I am a descendant of William Kaye who was founder of the Bell Foundry. You mentions one of his Bells in Henry County. Well, there is also one of William's Bells at the Cave Hill Cemetery here in Louisville, Kentucky. Not only was William Kaye the Bell Foundry, he was also the Mayor of Louisville in the middle 1800s. I also know Tina here, we've met recently at the Cave Hill Cemetery since we both are related to William Kaye, we have both been doing research on the Kaye surname.

Re: Wm. Kaye Bell Foundry
William Kaye was married to Mary Patterson, they had a son Dr. Edward Kaye, Samuel Kaye, two daughters Emma W. Kaye and Mary Anna Kaye who married William Jame Loos, and little Willie. All are buried in the Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. William Kaye was the founder of the Kaye Bell Foundry. I have rang William Kaye's Bell several time while visiting the Cemetery. (I like to think of it as my bell, hehe). There is also a Kaye Bell at the Cathedral of the Assumption which is located at 443 South 5th Street in Louisville, Kentucky.
William's parents were Joshua Kaye and Hannah (Poole) Kaye. His Mother Hannah is also buried at Cave Hill Cemetery.
The Kayes came to America from Yorkshire, England sometime around the early 1800s.

Re: Wm. Kaye Bell Foundry
I know this is an old thread but I am hoping someone can answer my question. I am researching the Kaye & Company bell that was located at the Bland County Courthouse. Does anyone know how long the Kaye Bell foundry was in business? I know it began in 1841 and was still existing in 1911. Does anyone know if any records from the company exist and where would they be? We are trying to determine when the bell was put at the courthouse. The first courthouse built in 1872 burnt down in 1891 and no records are available as to whether the old bell survived or they had it recast or purchased a new one. Any help would be appreciated thanks Denise

Re: Wm. Kaye Bell Foundry
Hi--What a proud ancestry you have. Mine is not near as exciting; however, my ancestors lived on a farm in Western Pennsylvania where a William Kaye bell was rung daily to call in the help for dinner,. It is marked with "1890 Kaye & Co, Lousiana" It is solid brass and has a diameter of 23". Do you know it's value? Again, congratulations on your proud heritage.
