I have been trying to trace my husband's ancestry. Best I can tell, he is descended from the John Kay who came to Gloucester Co., NJ in the 18th century, son of Garvis/Gervis/Jarvis Kay. I have found records indicating that Garvis is the son of Henrie Kay, who is the son of Homfray/Humfrey/Homphray Kay, who is the son of "John Kay of Melsha." After that, I am at a complete loss. It does not help that the Kay clan had a fetish with naming their sons "John" (translation: how do you know which Kay is being referred to in the records?).
So, does anyone have a clue about this?
Thanks!
