My Kay family emigrated from Germany in 1880s and came to Iowa (Mineola and Minden). Several of them moved to Nebraska (Pender co, Wayne co are the ones I can remember off top of my head). There are many with the same name and those get confused a lot.
If you can give me any specific names, date of birth, etc I should be able to help you. See if you can get grandpa's info and his parents.
look forward to hearing from you

Hello, I'm a descendant of a Kay,*On my Father's side* I'm also from Nebraska.
My Great great grandfather was Wm Kay b. Apr 1862 in Germany. While he was there he was a mauer (German for bricklayer). He had 4 children: Herman William "Bill" Kay b. 16 Jan 1886 in Ft. Calhoun, Washington Co. NE, d. 15 Dec 1978 in Blair Washington Co. NE
Sophia Kay b. Nov 1895 in Stockton, Lancaster Co NE d. ?,
Albert Kay b. Dec 1897 in Stockton, Lancaster Co NE d. ?,
Laura Kay b Oct 1898 in Stockton, Lancaster Co NE d. ?

Herman William "Bill" is my great grandfather. Around 1920 he was living in Washington county just Northeast of Bennington, Ne (present day Dutch Hall Rd & County road 35)

I actually grew up in Wakefield, Nebraska. One of my classmates had the last name Kay. My dad and his parents would tell me and my siblings that we were related to her...years later I asked her...and she too had heard we were related, but couldn't remember exactly who said it, she thought it might have been a grandparent.

From what I understand, there was 1 Kay family and at some point, there was a split...I don't know what caused it, some moved to Iowa, or up to Northeast Nebraska or both. Some may have even changed the spelling to Kai....or maybe it was from Iowa to Nebraska???
My grandmother ("Bill's" daughter, Frieda Katheryn Kay) pronounced her last name like "Kite"
The girl I went to school with pronounced her last name like "Cake".

If a split like this did happen my thoughts are it would be within Wm Kay's generation/siblings (since my grandmother knew her aunts and uncle).

I believe the grandfather of the girl I went to school with went by the name Rudy - and oddly enough lived maybe a mile away from my mom's side of the family in Wayne County. But I don't know Rudy's parent's names, That classmate of mine and I still haven't found that common ancestor.
