Surnames: Kavajec Lachata
This information was compiled by Lisa Perkins and it was the obituary of my Grandfather Frank Kavajec

ID: I0170
Name: Frank Kavajec
Sex: M
Birth: 29 JUN 1912 in Murray City, Ohio 1
Death: 12 SEP 1998 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois
Occupation: Retired Machinist, Tool Maker
Event: Hobbies Gardening, fishing
Burial: 15 SEP 1998 St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove, Cook Co., Illinois 2
Note: On the day of his burial, I write my memories of my Uncle Frank Kavajec. Uncle Frank was my father, William Frank Csolkovits', godfather. He was a jovial man who always seemed to be ready to have fun. I remember waiting for him to arrive at Spring Lake on vacation, just so I could ask him what the weather would be for the week. He loved to fish and I remember picking blueberries from the bushes on both Sandy Hill and Blueberry Hill with him. I also remember wading down the "crick" to catch frogs for bait. He would always encourage to pick the frogs that were not too big, as the big ones made too much of a splash when they hit the water and would scare the bass away. At his home on Warwick in Chicago, Illinois he had maintained a beautiful garden that included a trellised patio surrounded by grape vines. Uncle Frank and his wife Irma (Aunt Mitzi) took care of me when my mother was in the hospital giving birth to my little sister, Gina in August 1979.

Mark

You need to go backwards with the information that you have on your Frank KAVAJEC(Z). You need to establish a location of his parents' birth to proceed with the research.
To me KAVAJECZ and CSOLKOVITS/CSOLKOVICS(Z) seems Slavic but in Hungarian spelling. Your ancestors were Magyar/Hungarian but their surnames are of Slavic roots.
Look in EI at CSOLKOVICS, CZOLKOVICS, JOO, LACHATA.

Csolkovits is the married last name of my grandmother's sister Eleanor Lachata Csolkovits who married William "Bill" Csolkovits. Irma Lachata Kavajec is my grandmother and she was married to my grandfather Frank Kavajec(z) (1912)

Frank Kavajec(z) (1912) is the son of Frank Kavajec(z) (1875) and Ann Yoo or (Anna Yoo) or (Annie Yoo). I know nothing about Ann Yoo

sorry for being ignorant but what is Magyar/Hungarian?

You have lots of surnames but it is the "place of birth" that is needed for the research into "old country".
Magyar is Hungary, Hungarian. You did say that they were Hungarian so I presume Magyar.

Very true that the Kavajeczs are from Hungary but they were Exiled there by the Tsars from Siberia. I have researched the Records of Hungarian Families and the Records of the Kremlin Library and our name Kavajecz has been in Russia for over five hundred years and no record is in Hungary only a brief mention as Prisoners between 1889-1930.

Would love more specific details about Kavajecz's in Russia. Geographic
place names and dates if you have them. Located the baptismal record
for my GrGrandfather in 1863 in Mad, Hungary. Can find no other Kavajecz listings in the Mad Catholic Church records. Do you know of
other Hungarian villages they lived in?

Candi

I suspected that they were brothers too but I never did find out for absolute certain. My grandmother died in 2000. She kept in contact with Rita Kavajecz in Wausau for quite some time. My grandfather Frank Kavajec (JR) Irma's husband and his brother Steve Kavajec always went to Hayward Wisconsin to Fish. This is the place where they first met back in the 1980's

I actually met my great grandfather Frank Kavajec (SR) He died in 1975 in his late 90's

It is my understanding that they dropped the Z from the end of Kavajecz when the family moved to Chicago Illinois. Unfortunately the Chicago Kavajec(Z)'s didn't have much of a big family. Frank Kavajecz SR had 2 sons Steve (no children) and Frank (2 daughters)> one of them is my mother Joyce and the other is my Aunt Ann.
