I am interested in contact with anyone else who is aware of members of their family with the surname KAVALECS. My wife's family (who emigrated to Pennsylvania, USA in the late 19th century) can trace their descent to parts of Hungary. However, I suspect that there may be several variants of the spelling of this name, specifically including KAVALECZ.

My Gr Grandparents immigrated from Zemplen, Hungary to PA. at the turn of the last century. Their last name is spelled Kavajecz. However I have official documents with 9 different variations one of which is spelled your way. Candi

Mike,
I just discovered on the new Ellis Island site that my Grandfather and GRGrandmother's names were listed on the ships manifest as
"Kavalyecz" AND "Kavalecz"

There must be some family connection somehow.

I've found at least 14 official variant spellings of my family's name.

Candi: I haven't checked for my wife's Kavalecz relatives coming through Ellis Island yet. (And actually they may have arrived before 1892, I can't remember.) Anyhow, we should keep looking. You can find me directly at emds1@att.net.

Dear Alice:

I really have VERY little information on the origins of my wife's grandfather's KAVALECS family, other than that they came from Hungary to northeastern Pennsylvania in the early 1890s. So far I have been able to find no information about the family on the Ellis Island web site. I CAN tell you that the name KAVALECZ is not uncommon if you look in the Hungarian online telephone directlry. Candi Udy (see other message on this board) may have a little more information because she has documents from her family with multiple spellings.

Can you e-mail me a list of the 14 variations of your family name

mhartmann@g2a.net

I'm looking mainly for
Kavajec (which is my mother's maiden name)
but also
Kavajecz which is the last name of one of my grandfather's cousins

Kavajec
Kavajecz
Kavalecz

at a glance, they look almost like the same name.
Written in cursive after a long boatride and I could see how a name could appear differently.

Unfortunatly, whatever variation a person gets is what they're stuck with

Looking for Kavajecz related to Kavajec or visa versa

Surnames: Kavajec Kavajecz
My mothers maiden name is Kavajec. Her parents Frank and Irma Kavajec had 2 daughters. Frank Kavajec had all sisters and 1 brother Steve Kavajec (my godfather)didn't have any children with his wife Marie. My grandfather's father's name was also Frank Kavajec (I called him "grandpa bigboy") he was a coal miner in Ohio.

What I'm really trying to find is a relationship between Kavajec and Kavajecz. My grandfather Frank Kavajec had a cousin (distant perhaps) who lived in Wausau Wisconsin. My grandmother had given me a letter to read. It might not actually be from Wausau, but a near by city Edgar perhaps.

If anybody knows of any relationship between Kavajec and Kavajecz, please let me know.

There are lots of similar names Kavajec Kavajecz Kavalecz. Why do I have a feeling that there were simple "typos" that changed surnames?

According to my mother
her father's name was Frank Kavajec (DOB 1912)married to Irma Lachata

her grandfather's name was also Frank Kavajec (DOB 1875) Married to Anna Yoo

her grandfather's last name was Kavajecz at one point but he dropped the "Z" at the end. (just to mess with me I guess)

I didn't find his name on any ship manifest. I did however find a few

Josef Kavajecz arrived on The Prinzess Irene in 1903

Jozsef Kavajecz arrived on The Konigin Luise in 1901

I also found

Janos Kavajec
Zasanna Kavajec

I couldn't find Frank Kavajec or Kavajecz. Nor could I find a Francis Kavajec
per page
