My grandfather was Frederick M Kautz - born in New York approximately 1898. His father was born in Switzerland. He married Laurabelle Merrill. They lived in Hampton VA. My wife and I were at the Normandy battlefields in 2000 and found the following Kautz and Merrill grave markers in the military cemeteries there:

Henry Kautz/Private (US). Died 09.06.44. Normany. Plot E, Row 9, Grave 22.

Charles Merrill. 1st LT (US). DOB? Died: 30.07.44. Brittany. Plot F, Row 5, Grave 18
