James Allan Katzung, 71, of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Avon, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 10th, 2013. Born in Hartford, September 2nd, 1941, son of the late Kenneth J. and M. Jeanette (Price) Katzung. Prior to retiring, Jim was a Traffic Engineer for the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation. After moving to Florida, Jim was a Police Officer with the St. Leo Police Department. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served four years as an intelligence analyst in the Army Security Agency. Jim had been a private pilot and an avid gun collector. He was also a member of the Avon chapter of the VFW. Jim is survived by his sister, Judith E. Smith and her husband Russell of Florida and North Carolina, his nephews, Daren J. Smith of Greensboro, NC and Kevin D. Smith and his wife Christy of Burlington, NC, as well as one great nephew, two great nieces and several cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday (Apr. 8) at 11:00am in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, Avon with full military honors.
