Grace Virginia Katzenmeyer - Pa. Ohio, NC

COLUMBUS, OH – Grace Virginia Katzenmeyer, 87, passed away on Aug. 16, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio after a mercifully brief illness.

Grace was the quintessential casserole-cooking 50s and 60s mom.
She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School.
She met the love of her life, Phil, and they were married for 59 years, until he passed away in 2006.

Grace spent most of her life in Youngstown, Ohio where she raised two sons, John (Lynn) of Delafield, Wisconsin and Tom (Mary), who lives in Columbus, OHio.

In Youngstown, Ohio, she was very active in the community, Republican politics (one son strayed dramatically from this), the garden club, the PTA, and the library.

She was known for her annual Super Bowl party. There were bowling balls, golf clubs, and tennis rackets in every closet.

Grace was particularly proud of her four grandchildren, James of St. Francis, Wis., David and his wife, Carrie of Stillwater, Minn., Patrick of Columbus, and Anne of Atlanta. Grace was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandson in November.

Phil and Grace were fortunate to live in retirement for 28 years on the par three 7th hole on Course Number Three at Pinehurst Country Club, where an occasional ball would come crashing through their window.

Grace spent her final years at First Community Village in Columbus.

Grace’s ashes will be scattered at a private family ceremony, joining Phil’s, in the rose garden at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst in North Carolina.

The family has asked, instead of flowers, that contributions be made to the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation for their current capital campaign, 96 South Grant Ave., Columbus, OHIO 43215, Attn. Donna Zuiderweg or the Youngstown Library

The family would like to thank the caregivers at First Community Village and Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Arrangements by the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel in Columbus, Ohio.

Visit www.schoedinger.com to view this obituary and to send condolences

Mahoning

I am just now learning that Fritz may be my father. I may have been born out of wedlock. A family member contacted me after a dna match showed a connection. And ironically my name is Molly. My mother was married to my 'father of record' but divorced while she was pregnant with me. She never told me that the man on my birth certificate was not my father, probably protecting me. I do know that my father of record had wanted to name me suzanne, but my mother left him and named me Molly, who could be my paternal grandmother, Molly Malona Bennett - Katzenmeyer. I also find her as Mary Melona Bennett.

Would love to see photos. I have just gotten information that Ferdinand may be my grandfather. I may have been born out of wedlock to his son Fritz. I am working with Fritz's family members now to compare more dna. Mary went by Molly and my name is Molly. My mother passed away and had never told me that my 'father of record' was not my father, but she did divorce him prior to my birth.

Was his son's name Karl? There was a Karl Katzenmeyer, an old man then, in his eighty's maybe, in the 50's and 60's whan I was a kid. He gave everyone credit. If you were in need, and needed a refrigerator, stove, or something else, he'd make sure you got it and never said a word about the cost. He was a super guy. He sold me my first fly rod, and I remember a Case Sod Buster knife he sold me. I can remember the store to this day.

I have an ancestor, Johann Adam Katzenmeyer, who died 09-11-1917. His son, Albert H. Katzenmeyer, b. 10/28/1861 d.4/14/1935, was my great grandfather and most of Albert's people lived in Ohio. I'm relatively certain Johann Adam Katzenmeyer lived in Ohio, too. The antecedents of this family, Johannes Peter Katzenmeyer (1793-1876) and his seven sons, actually emigrated via New Orleans in 1848. Johannes Peter Katzenmeyer is buried in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A distant relative (Alvin M. Fisher) has done extensive research on the family.
Mark Katzenmeyer

Hi Everyone! I'm looking for info on Philip Katzenmeyer, formerly of Wyandot County, Ohio - died Iowa City (April 9, 1910). He was married and had a number of children. At the time of his death, all surviving children still resided in Iowa. Have obit from Wyandot County, Ohio (home of many of Philip's siblings) but it is not specific. Would love to find more information on the children. Would also welcome any other Ohio Katzenmeyer discussions, might be able to find a connection. Philip's wife (I don't know her name) also died in Iowa City in 1907.

Hi Al. I am also looking for information on John Clayton Katzenmeyer, in Ohio, & his ancestors. I am fairly sure that I have found his father, John Katzenmeyer/Katzmeyer. I have found a Peter Katzmeyer buried in the same cemetery &, looking at his birthdate & the one that I have for John, I think that it is possible that they could be brothers.
Continuing with that line of thinking, I have found that a John & Peter Katzenmeyer, born in a similar time frame & in the same area, are the sons of a Johann Peter Katzenmeyer. I was wondering if you had any information on Johann & his family of Ohio?
Thanks.
Denise Hamilton
